I personally don’t want a story reboot - Halo Infinite was already that and it left them a lot of freedom as to where go next while being set on one of the most interesting locations possible lore wise. There’s SO much potential there.
This might be a real hot take but I think Halo needs a bit more “maturity”
I enjoy Halo, especially recent Halo’s like H2A and Infinite, gameplay wise I very much enjoy Infinite’s campaign, largely because of the grapple but one of the major issues iv always had with the stories is that it’s hard to take them or the threats within them seriously
Chief is taking on these galactic threats or whatever but then the enemies you are coming across are little grunts running away screaming and even the bigger enemies like brutes just look like big trolls/ogre’s
I’m not saying I need chief to start going around chainsawing dudes or Berserkers busting through walls like it’s Gears of War but I think it could do with making enemies more intimidating and darker tone’s
I imagine a lot of long term Halo fans will disagree with this but I think after 20 years it’s ok to change things up, especially when the old formula hasn’t been performing the way it should
No.
Good talk
Hmm, I dunno if bigger is suddenly better though. I thought Infinite did a good job of establishing The Banished as a credible threat.
That being said, yeah a few encounters with big machinery or some more footage of Humanity getting wrecked in space would be nice.
To me the future of Halo pretty much means Infinite season 4, 5, and 6 as well as the Battle Royale from Certain Affinity.
And in that regard things are looking pretty good. I have no idea what CA is up to but there’s no indication that this management change would make things worse.
When it comes to the next AAA Halo single player experience, that’s where I see a debate and for me that’s just too far off into the future.
I’m at the point where when I log into play Infinite, I’m actually impressed. There was a time months ago where I was sick of the maps, sick of the challenges, and sick of the modes. This time around the modes are great, Forge map playlists are so good, and the challenges are more often like “get 25 kills or assists” where I can play it my way. It’s not perfect but I can log in almost daily and have a good time over a couple matches.
The shop is so unappealing (and overpriced)
I have a hard time thinking cosmetics in this game were designed for GaaS. Their system looks super limited and redundant in what they can offer.
While I do like Infinite, I’m in total favor of a reboot, reset or whatever. These new developers need to show their vision not the formers. Also, would like an expanded universe with other characters other than 117. It’d be nice if the franchise can also expand into other genres like Mario , Zelda and can feature new stories.
I’ll always miss Bonnie Ross - she got a metric ton of blame levied at her and yet I think it’s safe to say, given the departures and other elements that haven’t been addressed yet, that a lot of said blame was misplaced. People love a scapegoat as @Cairnst said - especially if that person is a woman or person of color.
There are still problems I personally have with Infinite and some of the directions 343 is taking (the latter which has nothing to do with Bonnie), and I think the sooner people realize that it’s not just the Directors inside 343 making some of these decisions, I think the better off people will be. Constantly looking for a head to roll is toxic (seen very little of that in this community and it always makes me proud).
I cannot Knottian.gif this enough Aarsal.
I still think there are some greedy hands on the business side enforcing these decisions to the detriment of the game and the community - the bundle you have listed isn’t a flat $10… it’s 40% more than the market standard. There’s a lot I love about Infinite but this remains one of the most asinine decisions to its long-term health - MTX is a way of the world but at least make it equivalent to the market.
Same. Especially since from all accounts, Halo wouldn’t have continued at all if not for her convincing Xbox leaders it could have a future.
What is little known is that she was in that meeting with Phil Spencer and Satya Nadella where Spencer outlined his vision for the future of Xbox. It is fair to say that she helped save Xbox.
The cosmetics and progression/unlocks are definitely some of the biggest issues with Infinite imo, right now there’s a great variety in the amount of maps and I don’t get stuck playing that god awful launch site map anymore so play wise the game is great, outside of the horrible desync at times
I also can’t complain too much because I never buy anything anyway but I look at how it all works and what’s on offer and just kind of think if I was someone who was into paying for cosmetics, that it’s all a bit lacking
Unless you’re super, super into Halo, there’s little here to grab the attention of people and the game needs more of the unique stuff if it’s going to stand out
Another week, another Zzzzzzzz shop.
There was a new version of Halo Fireteam Raven shown at the Amusement Expo International 2023 event:
It’s the same game in a different cabinet. Single screen, stand-up unit, with Assault Rifle guns instead of fixed on turret-style guns. That last part is actually really cool and would appeal to any Halo fan.
I’m hoping the game still does well, because I really, really, really want to see a UE 5 sequel that looks as good as Blur’s CG sequences in the Anniversary games.
Hot Take
An arcade game based on the Halo TV show with laser scanned visuals would be fantastic.
Hard to disagree with pretty much everything he said
The UI is horrendous and the CGB should absolutely be on the main menu, I wouldn’t be surprised if lots of people have no idea about it because of where it’s positioned
That event mode is pretty great. I’m having so much fun with the modded weapons and infinite ammo on BTB maps.
