I love this game, but fuck me, how fuck greedy are MS with this bullshit?
I’d much rather pay $60 for the MP than the shit they’re doing.
It’s a phenomenal game undermined by greedy monetisation. It’s absurd they’re charging money for colours.
They should be prepared to be a loss leader on this if need be. People will spend the money if shit is reasonably priced. Why do they have to do this shit?
Gears 5 was much the same so I guess we should’ve seen it coming to some extent.
Gears 5 was $60. Halo Infinite is f2p. Gears 5 is inexcusable. Halo Infinite is. Everything you buy in Halo Infinite you barely even fucking see in-game! Gears 5 sold you characters and execution iirc which are more noticable in-game.
I’m not saying Halo Infinite’s mtx can’t and shouldn’t be better but can y’all focus on things that matter to the game first? Priorities. When (hopefully) they they fix playlists and add more modes and minimize the effect of challenges THEN let’s talk about cosmetics and mtx.
Gunna put this out there. The ‘I would rather pay £60 than this’ is not an apt comparison. A full price game doesn’t change the fact that the game needs to be supported for a long time. By all means, make the argument that you want a full price game instead, but don’t do it with the expectation that the game would stay relevant for longer than 2 years. Unless you’re suggesting a full price game with the same priced MTX’s?
In terms of loss leading… I’d say they probably did that by delaying the game and making it F2P in the first place. This could easily have been a games pass game, but it wasn’t.
That’s not to say I don’t think there is tweaking that can be done, but the sentiment of full price vs F2P just doesn’t make sense.
Edit: After watching it wasn’t so bad, I’m just hating the SEO click bait that is being thrown around by a lot of outlets right now. If you hadn’t played infinite you would probably think it’s a 6/10 game with all of the FUD.
The Act Man’s video titles are always horrible, his content is really good but the video titles are almost always not indictive of his overall thoughts.
You’re welcome to believe the bullshit corporations tell you are necessary to keep the lights on while simultaneously raking in record profits year after year, I’m not going to.
I’d rather pay and get a similar experience to Reach.
There is no one saying MS doesn’t have a right or shouldn’t monetise their games, but the way they are going about it is utterly contemptible. I feel like this is a ticking time bomb that will go off when they more armours.
As I said, if it comes down to it, MS should be prepared for a loss leader. With Battlefield floundering and Vanguard underwhelming, now is NOT the time for Halo to prioritise short term gain over the longevity of the franchise.
MS are being their own worst enemies as they often tend to be, and in doing so they’re just breeding more contempt among consumers.
People will spend money if shit is priced reasonably. Especially on something as cool as decking out your own Spartan. They don’t have to price gouge, but they choose to.
Asthma, vertigo and an occasional adverse reaction to 'I just crawled out from under a rock" takes like being up in arms that a game would charge money for optional cosmetics
It’s not better or worse than the way others do it.
How do you know that? I’m sure they expect monetization for certain games but I’m pretty sure they don’t tell them exactly how to implement it or price stuff.
Other games being shitty about monetisation is shitty. That doesn’t absolve Halo from doing it.
Publishers control the budget, timeframe and monetisation. That’s standard practice. If you can link me any evidence of Xbox studios - or studios belonging to Sony/Ninty/whoever - are in charge of monetisation, I’ll withdrawn the comment.
Studios litterally hire monetization designers for that stuff. We have evidence it works differently between studios because different games under the same publishers can be different with their mtx and pricing, that tells me some publishers don’t force certain numbers or methods but just generally expect mtx.
Also let’s stop putting developers and studios on a pedestal, they’re not some angels that only want to produce art and entertainment, they also want to make money. If they’re SUCCESSFUL at implementing mtx they get bonuses and compensations.
