Lol. I am kind of sick of hearing it already too. However, I do think it will ultimately make 343 to change the progression system so it at least feels more rewarding.

for the 1 I think you need to press a key(button) after the score screen to automatically start a new match. it say in the bottom of the screen press key to matchmake again, something like that

I think you make good points and balance the discussion. But I’d say HI shouldn’t be compared to Battle Royale games and progression in exactly the same way. Here’s why…

BR is essentially the same game every single time and the challenges prompt people to play the game to do that challenge - loads play BR without sweating to win so the challenge system builds the variety and ‘changes’ up the gameplay for those people.

Halo Infinite is an arena shooter with various arena style modes and Big Team Battle. The variety comes from the modes and the BTB option. Challenges within that are ok but it forces someone who might only want to play Slayer (ok you can’t do that not but theoretically) to play stuff they don’t want to or use swaps. And that’s a chore. And the variety in an arena shooter is also driven by player improvement and getting better etc…so I think there is a subtle difference between these games and something like Halo. You could argue Halo needs progression less because of its nature but its F2P.

Just played CTF and not once my team made an effort to capture the flag. Not a single one while I made one capture and got the flag close to base 3 times.

I fucking hate getting paired with imbeciles.

4 hours in and I think I will take a break.

I just felt like I achieved nothing in 4 hours. There is no sense of reward and achivement cause you get no xp for your performace and no sense of progression

How can I choose to play on specific maps? I would like to play the bazaar map but so far I’m not getting it.

i know how you feel… played a few matches of the oddbal thing, and my team wasnt picking up the ball… only trying to farm kills…

Don’t care about progression but I agree with it.

Hoping that Launch Site is added into the BTB rotation and that they are sitting on 1 or 2 maps for December 8 (especially a BTB map in a unique environment).

And bring back Headlong.

I replied to another post about the progression system where they compared Apex to Halo and explained why BR and Halo are different beasts and the progression in Halo does need to change.

But the same applies here in reverse. Halo Infinite is not a BR game. And many shooters sustain themselves without being one. The reality is like any space there is only so much attention and interest in BR and that is probably saturated right now and anything that came along would probably be completely new rather than part of an existing franchise. Battlefields BR died. Others have launched and not been successful. There are very specific reasons why Fortnite, Apex and Warzone are successful and I don’t think the formula is just ‘do any BR and its a success’. The core Halo community don’t seem fussed and I don’t see honestly the kids playing these games flocking to Halo just cos it has a BR. Its a completely different type of game. The conversation is becoming so tainted by three games that are very successful with a demographic of gamer but the gaming space and MP gaming space is broad. There is room for a lot more than one type of game. The clamour for this mainly seems to come from twitch streamers but I don’t see anyone saying Halo needs to be SoT - another massive game on twitch. Its a very odd thing.

For a couple of years Overwatch was the absolute biggest thing around. Should every game have tried to copy that formula we’d not have half the successes we do today. Or similarly with Destiny - massive, everywhere online for a while - yet whilst the formula has SORT of been copied nobody has said ‘game X needs to be destiny’.

Ultimately Halo’s longevity will be dictated by the quality and quantity of fresh content. Not by shoehorning in a mode just because some twitch streamers want it.

Its a beta, they will probably release more maps when the game releases on december 8th.

EDIT: the quote from joseph staten:

Our previous Multiplayer Technical Previews went a long way to battle-testing our services and infrastructure," wrote Staten. “But as we prepare for a significant increase in the number of players jumping into Halo Infinite on launch day, December 8th, we want to ensure all our systems are good-to-go. While you may experience some bumps and bugs during this beta period, it does mark the official start of Halo Infinite Season 1, with all day-one maps and modes enabled as well as the full Season 1 Battle Pass.”

I don’t agree that the date is 8th December - be nice for new maps then but if not certainly before March. But 343 need a steady and strong stream of content. My main worry with the game more than the progression or even maps is I’m not convinced the Halo community or those new to it will care much about the rewards in the BP. And that to me is something they need to think about. New armour is nice but really could do with more stuff you can get from BP’s to really drive the engagement with the game. And of course lots of new maps over time.

That reads to me that the maps available now will be the ones available Dec 8th

People expecting more are setting themselves up for disappointment

It’s not even been 24 hours maybe just wait and see what they do when it comes to maps and all that, we haven’t even had the 22nd event yet which could come with a map or something.

Also if people are ok playing 1 BR map for more than 12 months I think 10 total maps should suffice, though more would be better obviously.

yeah, like dawg there isn’t even Infection or Grifball? big letdown if these 4 standard modes are just what we’ll have for the whole six months or whatever, especially with no Forge.

From the article-

Staten says that Season 1 will see more content added as a result, including events, cosmetics, and more. The game is currently giving all players who start the game before November 23 a set of free items (see gallery above), after which the game’s first event, Fracture: Tenrai will begin. After the game’s launch on December 8, 343 will announce more Season 1 events.

we will see on december 8th when they will announce more events and content coming to the game.

Im not saying they wont have more content but people shouldnt be expecting more maps for a while

Just tag on some XP gain to each completed game for now. That’s easy enough. Revamp in the longer run.

Aren’t Arena shooters the same for every match too? What generates the content in both genres is the people who is in the match, not the game itself. That is why the discussion is usually around “the sandbox” (in both arena shooters an br) and not something else. But we will agree that current set of challenges do not reflect the uniqueness of arena shooters and should be revised in forthcoming weekly challenges.

I would also love to see how next challenges fit with playlists. I think (I hope) we are in a special situation where we only have one playlist with all maps and modes.
