Halo |OT| Master Chief's Breath of the Wild Moment (Part 1)

I hope they change the progression system, feel kinda weird that in one capture the flag, I captured 4 out of 5 flags and got 0 xp for the battle pass lol.

Yikes. That’s bad.

I have no doubt they will. The consensus seems unanimous. I just wonder how long it’ll take.

It’s the simplicity that absolutely works, no complex systems, just a game that’s super polished and fun to play.

Exactly the biggest problem here is that you don’t get rewarded for playing the objective and at the same time it forces you to play bad weapons.

yes, and you can see when others are doing the battle pass missions, because they just want to get kills instead of do the map objectives

My quick and dirty solution to the so grind is just give us 5-10% of our score as base XP along side challenges, will give people a reason to play the objective and do well.

Played few matches and the game feels great to play.

It feels like halo has evolved without becoming some other game

The biggest drawback and it will be if they dont fix it is the XP you get. It just discourges you so much after you complete a match to see nothing for your efforts

It really is not a wise move to do this. Keep the BP things seperate to the XP you get. Makes no sense for me

This isnt rocket science. Numerous games with battle passes have figured out how to dish XP without solely relying on challenges. 343 has to figure it out asap because its the only bad thing rn and the worst thing is that this was warned twice and they promptly ignored it.

The game is phenomenal in every way barring the XP system. 343i are probably pretty happy about that. Obviously there’s other wee tweaks and stuff to sort but it’s glorious. Really can’t wait to play more :gimme:

I don’t have much of a clue about battle passes and stuff but I can’t remember a time when everyone seemed so positive about a game but so unanimous that they need to fix one thing in particular. It feels like everyone is saying the same thing.

My only experience with a pass is Rocket League. In that there was challenge things to do as well as you just got things for playing. I’m guessing this is what people want, something similar?

Yes

I literally played and won a game yesterday and my progress bar didnt move. That can’t be a thing.

To be fair, this is not the worst battle pass I have ever seen. Pokemon Unite was even worse (also challenge-based and no xp per match, but xp was so tight that you couldn’t miss the daily challenges for too long).

Thing is… this system does have a xp per match system. It is 100xp for the first few matches, then 50xp, and I guess then it will be ~40xp/match afterwards. Daily challenges are meant to reward playing with nothing else in mind, albeit reward might be delayed (you need to play 3 matches to get 150xp, not 50xp every match). I do think it is a mistake to not reward at all winning a match.

Let’s see how are next week challenges (or in two weeks). I guess that they will amend them to provide more xp and be less specific, then pacing will be much better.

We warned that making it challenged based would encourage bad behaviour and so far it seems like thats what will occur.

lol

Maybe the few that aren’t directly related to kills, as I think those need to be against human played Spartans to count

And those make up most of the challanges

btw, I disagree that other battle passes have figured out how to progress without challenges. Fortnite is a nightmare to level up if you forget about quests (and they are too specific sometimes…). Valorant is also extremely difficult to level up just playing, and you need to do daily and weekly challenges to keep up (albeit challenges here are way more generic and completable by just playing).

btw, speaking about Fortnite, I know plenty of people that leave fortnite open for ~75 minutes every day to farm xp on creative modes.

Apex figured it out.

Literally every other game has a better progression system rn.

Apex Legends has a challenge-based battle pass, and does NOT reward xp per match (you get ā€œxpā€ that grants stars, which you need 10 of them to get a level… which is exactly the ā€œPlay 3 matches and get 150xpā€ thing in Halo Infinite). The only difference is (1) you get more if you win a match, (2) challenges are not too specific (albeit they can force you to play with characters that you may not feel comfortable using) and (3) swapping challenges is easier. I do think Halo Infinite needs to work on (1) and (2), but ā€œchallengesā€ is not the issue.

Worst part of the progression system for me isn’t really about the Battle Pass, it’s just that there is no sentiment of progression. I barely made to 1st level after several hours.

In some games, just playing your first game is enough to reach 1st level. Even in Halo MCC. You’re going up fast (at least during the first levels) and you see the bar filling up like crazy.

I don’t care that much about progression (never cared) but it’s going to be a big problem for retention of certain type of players for sure.

If I had a complain, mine would be more about the content/maps which I felt is a little light after the delay (mostly on the BTB side).

Curious to know when the new maps are coming. Same for the Custom Browser.

And that is why I feel the commentary is a bit hyperbole over the BP since it is not a huge departure from the 'norm. ’ That said 343 do need to tweek it so you feel like you are making quicker progress, but they don’t necessarily need to do a complete revamp of what they are doing.
