Any reviewer worth their salt will realize “most fps campaigns don’t have co-op, I can’t knock this one too hard for not having it”. Didn’t effect Doom or Doom Eternal’s scores etc. but who knows. In the end they made it two products so it’ll be reviewed as two products.
Also another thing to consider is that MP shouldn’t be scored review until a week or two after launch for most because outside of these flights it’s not something you’ll be able to properly play through until the game is launched. Same goes for BF2042.
Every forum is obssessed with these damn scores.
Wouldn’t they just let’s the press play it early, the same way they did with mcc.
Although I get what you’re saying, I think it’s fair to review games for what they’re offering and not base it on what others are offering. Contextualizing it is definitely important and the impact of these things missing at launch will affect different people differently. But I don’t think saying other games don’t do this, therefore it isn’t as much a problem fits in this case. Co-op isn’t as core to Doom’s identity as it is to Halo. Forge drives the custom games community in a big way and is integral to keep the casuals coming back, hence reason for longevity. In the same way, BR isn’t core to Halo’s identity, so if a reviewer says “other FPS have BRs now, why doesn’t Halo?” and uses that as justification to lower the score, then that’s definitely bullshit because it’s basing on standards external to Halo. Whereas Campaign Co-op and Forge are internal standards to Halo so it’s fair to be critical of their absence at launch, at least imo.
Sure, but even if it’s a few hundred people playing getting matches of 24 of them all at the same time just isn’t the same as the full experience you get at launch. You can absolutely have a “review in progress” ready but not one I’d feel ok scoring.
It just depends on what the package at launch is. If it’s satisfying then I will score it on that, if it feels like it really is missing things then it will get hit for that. I wish scores didn’t exist though. I put a ton of work into explaining why I feel a way about a game, and then people just focus on the scores. like my 9.7 for the ascent I think I gave a good case why that game is that for me, but most don’t read it and just point out that "others didn’t agree with their scores’ like that means anything. You can only review your own experience.
100% agreed.
I personally think scores for reviews although can have their place, are massively overweighted in media and discourse (to the detriment of scoreless reviews not even getting validated under the MC/OC system). Kinda why I gravitate towards the likes of ACG and SkillUp for reviews because a scoreless system can provide strong reason to sit through and listen to what they actually have to say, and recognize language that is more fluid and personal than just trying to anchor the experience around a number. SkillUp’s Sable review was a great one recently (@Harm0nica did an excellent job too!). It’s the kind where I can just go in with no previous idea outside “recommended or not recommended” (because it’s in the title of the review lol) and it retains me better hence get to actively parse the reviewer’s experience for why they say one way or the other (and everything in between).
wait what the hell happened here lmao
I’m assuming the hammer will get pull from ranked because of friendly fire. Otherwise there will be SO MANY friendly kills.
Does the stuff we unlock in beta carry over to launch?
Thank you. Much appreciated.
You’re welcome! I really wanna play the game ASAP, but the stuttering I see in the reviews themselves put me off cuz I anticipate it adversely affecting my experience. Hoping these get addressed soon so I can get back to it, cuz I loved the demo a few months ago and now the full release largely lived up to the hype.
Nope, don’t think so.
I saw one tiny spartan in the wild too
Small nitpick, but I really don’t think the little woodland creatures need to make noise
I keep thinking there’s an enemy creeping around, only to discover it’s a space beaver rabbit hedgehog thingy
Nah man I love that ambience. Adds flavour.
However, I really think the radar needs a change. 18m is way too small and it makes BtB hard to enjoy at times.
I’m only talking about the rustling and scampering noises. The little vocal noises they make are distinguishable enough
And the reason I even brought this up was to make it tougher for campers to go unnoticed. Increasing the radar’s range, like you’re suggesting would make camping much more prevelant
Anyone got room for one more for the last BTB session? This is the only flight I’ve been free to play for the past two weeks
Finally managed to get into a wasp. Man this thing is a beast… I really love the design of this. Fits so well into the Halo universe.
