Halo Infinite delayed until 2021

Absolutely for the best. Honestly I applaud their decision to delay it, but it still begs the question will it hit the quality a Halo title needs. I truly hope so. Personally I hope they cut last gen development as well.

Also wonder what they will have to replace it this launch? Maybe they have a hidden 3rd party ?

My guess for Horizon 2 is February 2022.

For 2021, Xbox Series X now has Halo Infinite which I believe will be November 2021. Have no clue about the rest of the year. For PlayStation 5, im expecting Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart in Spring 2021, Demon’s Souls Remake in the Summer and Gran Turismo 7 in Fall 2021.

Well, first I would just say that I think delaying is the right choice if it’s not ready. I want a good game, not a rushed out one. So I’m fine with that. It’s unfortunate yes, but it’s the best descision.

But yes, I don’t see anything in particular that screams “Boom! Flagship launch title! I must buy this console” at launch. Do you?

Edit: I don’t know why the qoute is wrong, I meant to reply to you qouting me.

Could not agree more. I’ve seen some really tone-deaf takes in here, especially given what the world is going through right now. Frankly, the fact that we’re still getting some new games this year at all, and two console launches is incredible given COVID’s impact on the industry.

We all know that there are certain gamers that will find something to complain about regardless of what Xbox did, but the deafening chorus of those voices, the media, and the Halo community would have been extremely damaging had 343 released Infinite unpolished and unfinished. This is the right call for fans and the right call for the health of the team at 343.

Absolutely solid decision. The game did not look knock your socks off great at all.

I’m betting the next bit of news is making it Series X and S only

By moving the game to next year MS can technically do it.

It’s a shitpost, but this tweet cracked me up way more than it should have.

November 2021.

My feelings echo many of the posters here. A tough call, hard to take but will ultimately lead to a greatly polished experience.

I’m actually wondering how Phil must feel about all this? His first big console launch and Halo was the single AAA game to do the heavy-lifting. Games-wise it looks like we’ll have to wait to see the true power of the console (that goes for both platforms anyways).

Sales-wise there is an ace that I believe they’ll hook on to. They have the marketing deal for one of the biggest and most anticipated games of this generation in Cyberpunk 2077. They simply need to hammer the “plays best on” messaging and that would solve that imo.

My prediction for Halo is it will arrive November ‘21 with a multiplayer beta in March (Halo is always a Fall release). They’ll show a new trailer at E3 next year with the aim to right the wrongs of the Showcase Demo trailer (and I believe they will).

All the best to 343 and Team Xbox.

Had to happen. No way it was ready for launch in the state we saw. Looks bad for MS and will effect people picking up the new console at launch I would have thought.

Something seems amiss at 343. It’s a massive studio with all the resources it has, and the game is in this state. Hopefully Phil gets in there and tries to work out what went wrong.

Phil has been great, there’s no denying, but he screwed up big time with the - non existing - launch line up.

It’s a little depressing to see some of these comments. Name a major game this year that wasn’t delayed. Cyberpunk, the last of us, ffvii, animal crossing, doom eternal, avengers, dying light 2, watch dogs legion, gods and monsters and many more have all been delayed. If I was a playstation fan I would be worried about Spider-Man. The game is 3 months away and we have seen 1 minute of footage so far. We haven’t seen CoD at all yet. It wouldn’t surprise me if that gets delayed. The massive impact of this pandemic can not be overstated. There’s talk of this epic 5 year Dev time. Cyberpunk was announced 7 years ago. 5 years with time to build an engine really isn’t that last long.

343 delivered the most graphically impressive 360 game, and the tightest multiplayer ( controversial statement alert) in the series at 60fps with the arena mode of Halo 5.

The Halo games since 3 have been the most ambitious games out there. This time we have a massive openish world playable in coop split screen, a full multiplayer suite, forge mode and who knows what else.

What I saw of the infinite gameplay had a lot of promise. The music was spectacular, the prospect of an explorable ring is exciting. I am confident that 343 is capable of delivering something special.

As for what Microsoft can do, I would like them to put the multiplayer into early access at the end of the year. Fortnite and pubg are the two biggest multiplayer games in the world and they both launched in beta. I have a launch day original Xbox so I still in for a series X day one if only to play a version of Cyberpunk that doesn’t run terribly.

If the teams aren’t ready what is he supposed to do

I don’t think its any secret that its a cluster fk of management right now. However I assume that because of Halo going the live service route there will be less pressure on 343 as they won’t have to put out a massive AAA game every 3-4 years and could focus instead on restructuring, reorganizing the studio

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again. 343i should be on the same level as ReSpawn and they certainly can be if they get it together.

I don’t mean just Halo. I mean the fact that they don’t have another launch title prepared, hell, we don’t even know if there’s a 2021 big title (besides halo).

Phil and the team didn’t really get a budget until 2015-2016. They had to build/buy teams. They are in this spot because Microsoft wasn’t willing to invest in Xbox until 4 or so years ago.

It would be better if the Series X was launching next year honestly but this is the timeline they are in.

I wouldn’t expect anything right now. There will be alot more delays. The effects of covid will shake the industry

Well, I still think there was plenty of time to prepare something else, but it is what it is. I’m still excited for the future of Xbox, but that future was already pretty far away, now even more with the whole pandemic situation.

Yes they can drop the XB1-version, that is actually another positive thing with this delay!

All the time, talent, and resources this game has devoted to it, I really do some management problems are at play here. EDIT: Also releasing on an 8 year old console next year is going to be extremely awkward. I’m guessing if Halo Infinite is a late 2021 release, the one version of the game will be dropped.

Agreed. I see a lot of 2021 games getting delayed into 2022.
