Halo Infinite delayed until 2021

it’s a gay/brazilian thing we use gifs for everything

Needed - game didn’t look very good. However, going to be very interesting to see how they message the launch lineup now. If Spider-Man isn’t delayed on Sony’s side, it could be interesting

I guess I really will be playing nothing except older games and cross-gen for at least the first six months or so …

After a couple hours I’ve been able to digest the news and I do agree with this sentiment. As long as Halo is kickass which I know they will make sure of it then I’ll be a happy gamer. I have great confidence in Phil, the team at Xbox, and 343 so I will cut them some slack.

I’m not surprised by this, I expected it and think it will be for the best in the end, I mean I got worried when I learned that Ray Tracing wasn’t going to be there at launch, hopefully this gives 343i the time they need to release a complete game without a messed up launch, also damn this took some serious balls from MS as a publisher because Halo Infinite was definitely a very important game to have at launch and I know this might hurt Series X early sales but if this means avoiding another MCC disaster and a barebones launch like Halo 5 then I’m fine with this, good luck to 343i.

I’m in the depression stage of grief now. I just hope they have something at launch, because I’m hearing Scorn isn’t either. Medium should be great, but I’m “concerned” (I hate that word) that we may not see Halo for a year and by then, the price will drop. $700 CAD is a lot to spend on a system missing its killer app. Hopefully price is lower too.

That said, I just wish the console warriors would shut the fuck up. Even Keemstar is getting in on this shit, but they will praise a Spidey delay to no end if it is needed. I’m afraid to see what Whatculture has up their sleeves since they’ve spent the past week mostly shitting on MS and worshiping the ground Sony walks on (except for Ashe who is trying to be objective).

The game needs time and everything was pointing to it. If you have been paying any attention to what is happening with the game (all hands on deck) this is a good thing. Why should people crunch like hell for a still yet unpolished title.

So please stop with the doom and gloom over this.

I know for a fact, that delays don’t mean less crunch. https://www.usgamer.net/articles/this-week-in-business

Yes, my dude. 4 months of crunch is less than months of crunch going into 2021. Devs get paid either way, I’m more worried for their health rather than if someone on the internet doesn’t like a game they made.

Yeah, I’m considering unsubbing to WhatcultureGaming, I mean I barely check their videos as it is and as you said their videos lately have been rather annoying towards Xbox. I mean, we get it. Now they have this video about the ridiculous millions Sony will spend on deals and how it might obliterate Xbox. Not exactly what I call professional game journalism.

I know that The Medium and Scorn will be exclusive to SX at launch but I’m surprised that MS doesn’t seem to have another big game as a launch title for the console, they probably wish they did that now but in the long run I’m sure this will be for the best.

So now, what are you bets on when Halo Infinite releases in 2021 ?

I would say September / Fall 2021 first choice and May or June 2021 as second choice. The fact that they didn’t specify “early 2021” to soften the blow could mean they don’t intend to release it in January, March or April in my opinion. Fall 2021 is Halo: Combat Evolved 20th Anniversary by the way.

Though a Fall 2021 release would mean that the XSX would have to rely on third-party games until then (unless MS has surprises in store).

I’m happy it’s getting delayed. It needed it. I’ve been waiting 5 years already what’s another couple months.

I do Have a few problems though. I don’t like that they delayed it without giving a date. Is it coming January or May? I would have also liked them to announce a Mp beta To go along with series x launch. They could have also said ‘hey you know how we said the graphics won’t be done at launch, well the delay will allow us to finish them in time for launch’. Do we have to wait till spring to play the game and it launch without raytracing still?

These thing happen and it must be pretty rough for all developers. Don’t put people’s lives in danger for a stupid ass game. Plenty of games to play in the meantime. Looking forward to Cyberpunk, The Medium, The Ascent and Dragon Quest so I’m all good.

This!

We know from Grubb and Shinobi that they held stuff back and from the sounds of it, PlayStation might have Socom up their sleeves. Maybe they have another launch game to counter it? I’m just struggling to come to terms with the fact that they may have had no contingency plan here.

when it’s ready, no point in doing otherwise

be open be flexible

Do some of you really think there isn’t going to be anything to play at launch?

I’m not quite sure you actually read what I typed. I understand that crunch will likely be a part of the development until it releases in 2021, but there is a chance they need to crunch less per day. Maybe I’m wrong, maybe I’m not but you or I don’t know. The fact that they didn’t commit to an exact date makes me hope their devs aren’t working 12-16 hour days until launch.

I’d still bet money their staff are happier with this decision.

I think this is a fair guess. It needs time. I expected to hear “early 2021” like you said but that not being there tells me it could be another year from now. The thing that struck me about that July showing is that for all of their faults 343 has technical prowess (MCC) not withstanding. 4&5 had great polish. I was shocked to see how plain it looked. Here’s hoping they’ve secured something else in its place.

I’m betting Summer 2021. But 343 needs to be careful, the more time they wait the bigger expectations will be for the graphical overhaul.

Disappointed but I’m not surprised. I do worry about Series X momentum now. It’s launch line up is weaker than the Xbox One’s which is a console that really wasn’t popular at launch.
