Jason Schrierās article will probably shed a bit more light on what happened. Judging by the fact he was basically moved on would lead me to believe that the game was in the mire and needed someone else to stear the ship which it looks like Staten was able to do.
Looking at dozens of reviews, there are still signs of troubled development here and here, I think Staten literally saved the game from apocalypse.
I think we all know the game had a very rocky dev cycle, but the team managed to land the plane mostly intact and everyone is probably breathing a huge sigh of relief.

Halo 4 at no.3ā¦this game is a slog to get through especially in everything above Normal IMO.
But yeah different opinions and all.

To be fair I replayed Halo CE on Heroic recently and boy that game was a slog to get through mainly because of the health system. In future I think I will go normal.
Not long to go! However a little bit longer depending where you live. Release times below, as itās a simultaneous global release

1 more day! Unbelievable, we are finally here guys! I avoided all reviews to escape spoilers but I really hope this game sets up a bigger saga to come.
Man I cant wait to land on Zeta Halo tomorrow!

I played through 4ās campaign the most. Co-op on legendary was a fun time. Itās not a perfect game, it has a bad rep but itās story is still my favorite of any Halo game. Halo 5 campaign was such a huge disappointment in comparison.

Halo 2 is by far the most linear and boring Halo to play 
When I take it from the enjoyment and freedom I think Halo 1/3 and Reach are the best games. Halo 4 got a nice story and some cool setpieces but is also pretty linear and got only a few good vehicle lvls.
Overall I think Halo Reach is where story gameplay and setpieces are the best mix. With great combat scale.
Halo 5 has the best gameplay easily but the rest is just medicore

Halo 1 is mostly great eexcept for the reused levels and The Library.
Halo 2 has the strongest start of all the campaigns, but loses itās pace when you reach High Charity.
Halo 3 I found to be the reverse of Halo 2. The start was a drag, but the second half is peak Halo.
ODST is probably my favourite Halo campaign. Varied missions, and I love the structure, vibe and mystery that game has.
Reach has the best plot, and is my second favourite campaign. The only issue I have with that game is the constant reuse of the ONI base.
Halo 4 looked hella pretty when it released, and I loved it when they started giving MC a semblance of a personality.
Halo 5 had good gameplay and verticality to itās maps. I wasnāt stoked with the rest of the game.
Can agree with all of this, tho Halo 2 fall of where early once you got hands on arby
Replayed Halo 2 two years ago on Heroic (I hadnāt played since I dunno 2007? something like that) and loved it, Iād say that the campaign was better than I remembered and overall Iād say that itās an underrated campaign. 
@Thanathorn Itās by no means a bad game thatās for sure. I enjoyed it at launch and I agree that it has a good story though since then after trying to replay it via the MCC it didnāt grab me and I dropped it I dunno 2 or 3 times. In comparison ODST or Halo 2 were so much fun to revisit.
My personal favorite is Halo 3, I played this game so many times at solo and co-op via system link with a good buddy of mineā¦so many good memories.
For the rest of the ranking I love Reach, ODST and CE so much that I canāt choose.
