Halo Infinite - Campaign Hands-on Previews

Mid 80s

I think even if the campaign is really good people have such absurd expectations from Halo that it wont do better than that and things like coop/forge being missing will damage scores as people will review on what its missing instead f whats there

which i dont know why since we knew for months now about co-op and forge absent as much as i am salty about it

Ill bet 88. I’ll be really disappointed if it doesn’t exceed Halo 4 which is 343’s highest scoring game with 87.

yea its been univerally glowing

My guess: 92

I think folks underestimate how good a game is that is being labeled as ā€˜the best Halo game ever made’ by a large portion of those who played it. Also, the days of Xbox games getting lower review scores than they deserve are over imho.

The press genuinely seems to want to relive the glory days of the 360 and will give the game some breathing room in reviews I think. It will be less about ā€˜lets imagine what it could have been’ and more about what it actually is. It will compare super favorably with other FPS games across the board as well as other open world games in a lot of ways I think.

did anyone say that about infinite?

That’s bold haha.

You had Mint Blitz, HiddenXperia, UberNick, Ian (Halo Canon) gushing about the campaign so far…

I’m very, very excited about Halo Infinite. I can’t wait to do my review, for @Shpeshal_Nick I’m keeping my ā€œobjectivityā€, that thing that doesn’t exist in reviews :doge: and only starting at at 15/10 score-wise.

What lol, no. In that case, HiddenXperia, Mint Blitz, etc also shouldn’t have gotten the codes. That’s not the reason, but yeah let’s leave this topic.

I’m going with -

  • Campaign: 85
  • Multi-Player: 95
  • Overall: 90

Negatives for the campaign will be the lack of co-op which I can easily see reviewers docking a few points off the score for it missing at launch which despite meaning nothing for me personally, I can understand why fans are not happy about that. The open world structure can go either way but one thing that I can see being an issue based on previews is that a lot of the optional side content was said by 343 to be just that - purely optional which on one hand is good but on the other hand, you want it to be great so players actually want to do all of it as opposed to ignoring it because they don’t have to do it.

Seeing the icons on the map is a mistake in my opinion. When clearing out an FOB, instead of getting the icons on the map, there should be ā€œ?ā€ icons which are basically points of interest that tell the player there’s something there but you don’t know what until you get there which would add more incentive to the exploration. One thing that could go either way will be the story/characters and how it all plays out. If this is excellent, then I can see a higher score overall for the campaign. If not, possibly lower.

Based on the previews I watched, it seems like the visuals, art style and presentation is excellent, audio is great and the combat/gameplay superb while also being highly polished, at 60fps consistently throughout and relatively bug and issue free.

So basically, it’s going to come down to what I have said all along - story and characters as everything else that I just mentioned above seems to be at a top tier level.

Definitely looking forward to playing the campaign and after a few videos, my preview watching is done as I have seen more than enough and don’t need to see anymore until im actually playing the game.

Don’t know if already posted but watching this made me smile. Very positive (except the limited weapon sandbox, the HUD and the night that could be darker).

Just watched your excellent video of Outpost Tremonius (the only thing i will watch before i can play it myself). My first thought after 1 minute: is this Doom? Holy shit, it looks so clean and fluid and good. Nice job, 343.

wait is this edited lol

Cuz all I’ve seen of night footage was way brighter than this still

Where is this from

Sean W didn’t get one either so I gather that there’s just simply a limit on how much they wanted to give out.

I stuck with only watching the Xbox Era preview because some of the larger sites don’t seem to be that careful about spoilers. The way the Xbox Era video was edited even shied away from spoiling gameplay portions so we could experience it ourselves.

I did read an article from PC Gamer and it was thankfully spoiler free but I could have easily been exposed to one so I decided to not pursue things after that.

So yeah I’m not going to watch or read anything else. I already have what I need to be excited.

Just saw Jeff Grubb Halo Campaign preview lol it was pretty bad he should not be doing gameplay vids i think they should have give Act Man a code at least with him you get great detailed analysis with actual good gameplay
