MP has just one equipment at a time though so I don’t think that’s an issue in particular. What I think is a decent solution is a pie menu where you press a button and just flick the analog stick in the one of the four directions rather than requiring your thumb to press two buttons back to back. This will be a milliseconds action. Reduce that string by one button and just have the selection be done with the right analog stick that you already have your right thumb on, but just for the split second it’ll overtake the camera. This can be done fully real-time or giving a small time slow when you’re selecting like most games that deal with this (R&C for example). But the time slow is probably a design decision that might affect the combat feel a bit, but I am not sure, I think’d be fine.
Grenades - RB/LB: Type1, Press for Frag, Hold for Spike.
Hold Right D-Pad to switch grenade type.
Type2 Press for Plasma, Hold for Dynamo.
Equipment - RB/LB
4 D-Pads, one D-Pad for each equipment
Hold D-Pad Up for flashlight/mark.
Hold Right D-Pad to switch grenade types.
I don’t really like the idea of holding over a double press.
Time slow down probably also not an option when having a co-op option.
This please. Just a quick click and rotate the thumbstick for selection would be ideal(Also allows them to put in more equipment in future)
ATRIOX LIVES
I need Halo The Endless as soon as possible.
Wait wait wait…
Time Travel?
Atriox is in the past?
The Endless are a race of time manipulating aliens?
Atriox is in the present.
Not according to the Legendary ending.
The Legendary ending has the same cutscene be with added dialogue and text that implies Atriox is in 10,000 years in the past.
Nope, the Forerunner talking to Despondent Pyre is 100000 years ago, Atriox is in the present.
I was usually switching between grapple and drop shield. I really haven’t found the thrusters to be particularly useful except for a slightly faster melee.
So what are the big questions everyone still has wrt the game’s story?
Mine would be:
-
Do we know for sure the Infinity crashed on the ring? The destruction to the ring is due to Cortana iirc, not a ship and while the crew abandoned ship maybe Roland could have kept it in orbit?
-
How did Atriox know about The Weapon? Or was he on the Infinity looking for something else? Was he there to kill MC as retaliation against Cortana’s destruction of his home world?
-
What is this mission Locke was sent on? What was this mission Lasky borrowed Blue Team for?
-
Did MC bring The Weapon to the ring or someone else? If so, how/why did MC end up back on the Infinity, abandoning The Weapon until he returned?
-
Why is The Harbinger’s cylix shaped like her, but all the other Endless cylixes in the post-credits cutscene have different imagery on them?
-
So the Banished thought Atriox dead due to Cortana blowing up the portion of the ring they were on in their last encounter, yes? Why didn’t Atriox actually kill MC? Why leave him floating in space? Did he want to keep MC alive so Cortana had some reason to negotiate with him?
-
Jega vanishes after you defeat him…does not show up even on the threat sensor. Hmmmm…do we think he is actually dead or did he scurry off?
-
With The Harbinger dead, why does Atriox feel compelled to bring the Endless back? I assumed she agreed to give him the ring in exchange for him helping bring them back. So does having them return serve his agenda somehow? And doesn’t he still need a human ‘reclaimer’ to actually fire the rings anyhow?
-
Why did Despondent Pyre make a point to bring the ring within firing target distance of the Endless home world during the parlay? Wouldn’t that be kinda pointless since the Endless can’t be harmed by the ring’s firing?
-
Are we sure the Weapon and Cortana are not intended to be the same entity? More like a death + reincarnation arc, which would make what some felt was too rapid a redemption much more gradual than most seem to assume (since it would be intertwined with the Weapon’s arc all along the main game).
-
Why is Atriox able to open the cylix for the Endless when the game explicitly states that requires humans/reclaimers in an audio log?
-
What do you guys think is the meaning of the numbered sequence that captures human prisoner (Lucas Browning was his name I think) spouts off after the Harbinger talks to him and drives him mad?
-
it’s the most sensible thing, the Banished wouldn’t have let the Infinity alone for 6 months if it was still in orbit
-
I think he wanted retaliation against the humans first, then strategically, crippling the Infinity meant winning the Halo installation, the specifics about what he knew and don’t will be explained in Rubicon Protocol next year, also next time we’ll see him directly
-
being out of the main game? lol. Anyway, we don’t know for both, but while Locke is 99,9% somewhere on the ring, Blue Team might be on another planet altogether.
-
MC did, the Weapon explicitly said he abandoned her for 6 months
-
it’s a mistery, also, while being an Endless, she wasn’t in the same confinement area of the others for mysterious reasons
-
I think the reasons are only for scenic purposes: 343 wanted MC defeated, but not killed, also the next time we encounter Atriox, we’ll beat the shit out of him.
-
possibly, but who knows.
-
the guy is cunning, maybe he has some king of leverage to partially control the Endless, or he simply wants vendetta against humans and the other factions after the destruction of Doisac
-
IDK, maybe a direct pulse could have been more effective, anyway keeping the ring close was for diplomatic purposes (the metting, etc)
Spoiler cast is this thursday, if you have any questions leave 'em here!
Having “The Weapon” actually be a Cortana model without backed-up memories or the trauma/experiences of Cortana 1.0 was a genius way of writing themselves out of the “Evil Cortana” corner they painted themselves in with Halo 5.
You couldn’t redeem Cortana after all the shit she pulled, basically nuking the Brute homeworld, so you just give them a new Cortana and start from scratch.
Agreed, It couldn’t have been done better. I’m super happy how they handled it all and even more I am looking forward to what’s to come. They did a brilliant job here and I really really love this game.
She apparently nuked Australia too, I know for a fact @Shpeshal_Nick wouldn’t have forgiven her.
some interesting stuff in this video
not really buying anything about time travel right now though. It’s all still largely time dilation related, no concrete time travel is happening. But the stuff regarding Accelerated Chronological Fields is definitely something that could be the reason for the Endless’ “abilities”.
I think you could plausibly interpret the Weapon as representing the redemption arc of Cortana, almost akin to a death and then reincarnation. Fundamentally they are the same entity, after all. If I recall properly, the Weapon isn’t so much a ‘copy’ of some OG Cortana as they are both born from same brain scan of Halsey, so both have the same starting point.
At one point in the game Cortana even asks that John save her from herself and questions whether there was any difference between the plan in her head being from her own thinking or Halsey’s and whether that even matters as a ‘distinction’. At the beginning, the Weapon also refers to the fragments of Cortana she analyzes as ‘this is me, it is the last part that I remember being deleted’. I think 343i intends to have the Weapon and Cortana be two sides of the same coin and not two entirely distinct characters.
This is why I see folks talking about Cortana has not having had a proper redemption arc and it makes me furl my brow a bit since it seems that pov is premised on Cortana’s character being killed with some permanence. That seems to me kinda like a ‘surface level read’ on the storytelling though instead of really considering the themes at play (including hope, redemption, 2nd chances). Cortana also repeats the line about ‘if you knew how you were going to die, how would you live your life differently?’…which is put to Atriox but also seems to be a question applicable to the Weapon who now knows how she will end (i.e. as evil Cortana) and has the chance to live her life in such a way to avoid that.
I also think the Weapon is actually more aligned with Cortana’s memories than the game wants to say explicitly at this stage. She somehow knows how bad the Flood is, despite that being something she shouldn’t know anything about given Cortana only learned of the Flood after meeting MC. She also drops the ‘just dust and echoes’ line a couple times, which is another call back to events she should not know about if all is as told in the game’s story on the surface.
I listed some questions earlier, but also wanna add the question of how Atriox can open the cylixes. It is stated explicitly earlier in the game that opening them requires a human/reclaimer. I also think we should consider the possibility that 343i intends the Weapon and Cortana to be the same character and not two distinct entites; as in, the Weapon is more like a reincarnation of Cortana in some ways than a distinct replacement. That would give the Cortana character arc a lot more meat to it than it seems on the surface as ya play the game. I think there are hints supporting this too.
