It was reported 3 months ago, took this long before it finally happened, though.

Yeah, I was confused for a moment as I thought it had already happened but his post was legit.

EDIT: I edited the title for clarity.

If this is anything other than Mr Mayles feeling it was legitimately time to leave and simply wanting to move on, it stinks. Dude has had a key hand in many of Rare’s greatest games.

Sad to see this man leave RARE. I worry about RARE these days even with the invesment in the new barn

Considering Rare’s output the last 10-15 years, this is probably for the best. (This isnt a slight against Sea of Thieves, the game is great, but other than rare replay its about the only thing they have done in that time)

To be fair once a team completes a successful live service game, then that’s what they’ll mainly focus on. We also can’t discount the success of Kinect , but I def hear you that they might need a new voice

Wasn’t Mayles the one who was determined that Rare has to bring only new IP/ideas to the table and pretty much shut down the possibility of them working on Banjo and the rest of their legacy IPs? if yes then Rare may revisit/reboot some older franchises now which is a good thing, of course this requires that the team actually wants to do that but I find it impossible that in this whole team nobody wants to try something new with their classic series.

I think they should def look into viva piñata franchise if they have passion for it. I feel that’s an untapped franchise that would work better today .

I think they should license out certain ips like banjo . I think best course of action is to have a remake and see how well it performs
