i agree, just that I’m willing to say the zeitgeist can shift to other types of games becoming the more default prestigious over time, just as it has previously.
I can understand Halo 2 because at that time, it was revolutionary and made an impact.
I’m using Madden because it’s been around for 30 years or whatever it’s been but you can play it now and the same shit works that worked 5 years ago. It doesn’t do anything new or revolutionary or holy shit, this is amazing!! I exclude several genres because I just don’t think they deserve it nowadays. I can see back in the day but not now where everything has evolved.
We’ll just have to agree to disagree because we just look at things differently.
sony put out days gone and deaths stranding in 2019, so thats not a high bar lol
Thank God Overwatch beat out Uncharted 4. What a miscarriage of justice that woulda been.
And yet, Death Stranding won overall game of the year. It wasn’t my goty nor do I care about the game but it did win overall. My personal hope was REmake2 back in 2019 but remaking a classic is debatable in regards to winning goty because it’s based on a classic.
Uncharted 4 won overall game of the year. All of you guys really need to stop going based on one single award when there’s literally hundreds and TGA is just a single one of those hundreds.
I’m not saying they hate xbox. I’m saying they only play PS games. Look at the list of Critics involved. 95% of the European critics only review and play PS games or put down xbox games. American critics are a lot more fair. But there’s no denying the influence sony games have over everything else
Also the “game of the year” overall winners from every outlet is heavily skewed towards sony too.
You can’t do anything about it. Theres more critics who play more PS than anything else. Thats fine. I’m saying…don’t include them for overall. Should be impartial balanced critics only.
although i agree TGAs are overvalued right now but it is not just keighley sitting at a booth and voting which game wins what lol, it’s still a conglomerated event where most big gaming publications submit their entries for what should win what.
Still heavily sony centric. Look at Death Stranding. How that game won more GOTY awards than RE2 is ridiculous. Granted it was like 2 awards but still
Uncharted 4 was one of the most average video games I’ve played. Great movie and story. Love the characters. One of The best moment of any game this gen was the Crash Bandicoot scene between Nate and Elena. Love it. The actual game is boring as fuck though. Too long too repetitive and way too many slogfest shooting and climbing sequences.
Also TGA is valued over every other individual award because people go there and are acknowledged.
Well done on Kojima for picking up some Romanian drone sony site award but the actual Event where yo unattended wearing your nice suit…sorry. Miyazaki got the deserved reward. Sit back down with your best friend Norman Reedus and watch.
Yup. Let’s be honest, the Game Awards are the one that matter. 83 million people watched that shit last year. Let’s not try to pretend Rock Paper Shotgun is on that level. Not saying everyone has to like their choices, I usually don’t (except Overwatch, God of War, and Zelda winning). But their reach AND the fact that yes, they are the combined vote of pretty much every editorial staff that matters… yeah, the Game Awards winner is always gonna be the de facto GOTY.
hey i wont accept RPS slander on my timeline!
lol but yeah, I guess we could say, currently, it’s either TGAs do matter or award shows as a whole don’t matter and both are probably just as valid (although I personally lean to the latter)
What would you have picked the winners for in those years? God of war IMO is the only worthy winner from Sony this gen.
Overwatch I would have given to Doom. BOTW is fine. There wasn’t any game close to BOTW that year.
I’m not talking about winners per say. I’m fine with them. I can’t be mad at any winners. Except the year MAdden won it.
I don’t even know anything about them, I was just picking a lesser-known site, haha.
I’m saying Overwatch, God of War, and Zelda were the ones I agreed with.
I had characters falling through the floor at times, collectibles glitching out mid playthrough and my skiff got stuck in the sand level and I had to wait months for it to get fixed.
haha they’re cool, they have some characteristically English/British humor in their previews/reviews which I like.
Oh ok. What games do you disagree with? I could have gone 50/50 with some other years. Sekiro/RE2 being one. Last year I would have given it to Like a Dragon. But we all know that wouldn’t happen.
2014 is a bit of an anomaly. Dragon Age was just best of a very mediocre bunch. I’d have been tempted to give it to a remaster for the lols.
Sekiro slander on my timeline ?

I agree with what you’re saying but it’s a separate award out of hundreds based on a limited 6 game list in which some people who are voting may not have played and completed all those games. It is a legitimate award but it’s just one of hundreds. Also, most of the big gaming publications end up having a different game of the year than TGA does.
Death Stranding won by 23 awards overall. 13 by critics. 10 by readers/fans. I easily prefer REmake2 but I understand why it didn’t win. It’s a remake of a classic. The foundation, basics, core, etc. Everything is already there. So while I love REmake2 and wanted it to win, I knew it wasn’t going to simply because it’s a remake of an already existing classic game.
I rated Uncharted 4 an 8.5/10. It’s my 4th best game in the series. I agree with what you said. It’s the story and characters as well as the visuals that carry the game.
TGA is valued over others because it’s a marketing/sales event which is all anyone gives a shit about in regards to that show. No one cares about the actual event. People and companies especially care about "will this show give me more screen time, advertising, revenue, etc. That’s why people care about it. When you don’t actually put EVERY award on stage and waste time with celebrities and bands which honestly, shouldn’t be there at all unless related/connected to a game itself, you know it’s not about the games themselves. Never has been and never will be. Plus, they hold the awards in early December in order to build it all up for extra money and holiday sales.
Sekiro deserved it. So glad for Miyazaki. When he won it I was so happy. Partially because it wasn’t given to Geoffs idol. I have to admit that.
But if RE2 had won…i wouldn’t have been upset. Both deserving games.
forget the reader fans. Critics only. Reader fans reiterate my bias points. There are groups of fans from those reader sites that are heavily sony centric. Look at 2017 and the amount of reader awards Horizon won over BOTW. Its crazy. And that’s not because they played both and prefer Horizon…they only played Horizon.
Ignoring Readers, critic wise RE2 and DS were about equal. I think DS might have had 1 more.
