Geoff Keighley gives his thoughts on PS5 + XsX

This is pointless measure. Every other game released this year has a smaller scope than Flight Simulator.

So the game should be big in scope…how many hrs?..bc Ori is longer and deeper experience than the upcoming Spiderman game is; similarly so for Detroit, Death Stranding and a lot of other games that are commonly pushed as ‘major, AAA blockbuster Sony exclusives’. Same goes for Wasteland. Budget evidently doesn’t matter. Dev team size evidently doesn’t matter. Expansiveness of the game itself doesn’t seem to matter.

What is the precise criteria? Ori and Wasteland are both atop their genres, critical darlings, unique experiences, super deep and replayable, both bring fairly lengthy playtimes to the table, had strong budgets and while not huge teams Gears Tactics had a big one and you decided that can’t count either. So what is the actual criteria?

I thought we are talking about MS games ? i only compared MFS to other MS games

So are you also dismissing Fable or Avowed? Because I can guarantee you they have a smaller scope than Flight Simulator.

Bruh we are talking About 2020 games and yeah every game in terms of open world would be smaller than MFS

To keep it simple if the game got higher budget then there is higher chance this game will be big quality game or what people saying nowadays “Masterpiece” lol

These type of games is what will attract People just like how MFS 2020 did it

Ori 2, Wasteland 3 and Gears Tactics are all “big quality”. Bigger budgets doesn’t guarantee you quality or “masterpieces”, remember Crackdown 3 (which I really liked), Anthem, … ?

What are you even talking about?

For me AAA games means games that help the brand, any game that doesn’t help is a waste of time and money.

But, what does that actually mean? And how do you invest in games if you have no idea whether they’ll actually “help the brand”?

Everyone has their own opinion on what “AAA” means, which is why it’s a ridiculous standard that ultimately doesn’t mean anything.

I will see what type of games are popular in the market then I will invest. One game like GoW or RDR2 or Jedi Fallen Order is far better for the brand than a billion game like Battletoads or Tell Me Why. That’s my philosophy.

Isn’t that mostly subjective, take the PS4 I’d argue Bloodborne did more for the brand than games that bigger tenpole releases

You can’t really predict popularity though. Fall Guys is the new “cool” game, but would you have thought that before it was released? What if they make a smaller game and it becomes the new Fortnite?

I honestly don’t see a problem with investing in smaller or “lesser” titles as long as the investment is also on bigger titles that will hopefully push the system to the limits. Sony also makes smaller titles and have invested in studios similar to Dontnod. You can have both.

I get the frustration about not having big 1st party games right now, I really do. But, these games take time and they will be there at some point in the future. If that’s not good enough for you, that’s totally your prerogative. But this narrative that MS is only making small games or “gamepass fodder”, or simply “GaaS” titles is getting a bit ridiculous.

Action RPGs are popular. I hope Xbox works with FromSoftwre, they have good relationship with them now so there is hope.

Halo Infinite has had more time than any Halo game ever made, and more time in development than most games (including AAA) period. And look at the state that game is in.

343 screwed up so badly, that the marketing for Xbox Series X has to be totally re done and the poor souls responsible for that task are definitely crunching, right now. since marketing is planned months/years in advance.

The most popular games right now are League of Legends, Fall Guys, Fortnite, GTA5, Warzone, Minecraft, Fifa and so on. Why would you invest in RDR3 or Fallen Order 2?

I don’t know what state Halo Infinite is in and neither do you. If you’d like to keep shitting on 343, by all means go ahead. But I’m not sure what relevance your comments have to what I said.

I know the game isn’t ready for it’s planned release date after 5 years of development. And I know the game isn’t visually impressive even compared to current gen open world games. Someone disagreeing with you, doesn’t mean someone is shit posting.

Good ideas, maybe they should make games like GTA, Fall Guys, Warzone etc. They should make games that help the brand.

You didn’t disagree with me. You just brought up how 343 screwed up so badly and how Halo infinite was in “such a state” when you really have no idea what state the game is in. Is it ready for launch? Of course not, since it got delayed. But that doesn’t mean the game is actually terrible and also doesn’t mean it’s not. But regardless, I still don’t see how that has any relevance to what I posted. Did I claim 343 was great? Did i claim Halo Infinite was fantastic? Did I claim Halo slipping from launch was somehow a good thing? No, none of that.

So, apologies if your reply seemed like a senseless hit job on 343. I still think it was. :man_shrugging:
