Still haven’t played it on PC. At this point I might as well wait out the Xbox One port.

I am still at the beginning but imo it is a good game. nice variant of the original. It would be even the better game if they would use the already known characters and would introduce some shit talking between moves.

Gears Tactics has a really good foundation but a couple glaring flaws which I wonder if they can address with this version. The core campaign missions are good. The tactics are challenging but fair. It has it’s own unique identity in comparison to something like Xcom. Where it struggles is the side missions. They force you to do a lot of them and they get boring quick. What makes it worse, there’s no larger thing to build towards so you’re never that excited about grinding missions. If they can add a macro layer and balance the side stuff so it’s not required as much, Tactics has a shot to be one of the upper echelon tactical games. Right now it’s a mixed bag that’s pretty good sometimes and not so good others.

As someone that hasn’t played it (been waiting for it to launch on Xbox), if there’s no larger thing to build towards when doing side missions what is there that’s forcing you to do them?

August is really busy for XGS. If it’s before Series X launch, I’d say September.

Loads of game pass stuff already filling up my backlog so with all of the releases stacked in August (including wasteland 3) I reckon they can afford to put this one off until Series x launch.

I could see this being a September release. If I’m not mistaken Microsoft has released a first party game almost every month this year.

you have to do a set amount of side missions between the story missions (most of the time)

es: act 2 chapter 3 to play chapter 4 you have to complete 2 side missions

Oh…gross. That definitely feels like adding missions solely to pad the length of the game. Thanks for the info.

well yes and no

it’s not much padding imho, it felt like a way to sustain the progression(equipment boxes, XP, recruits etc) needed to beat the story encounters
