Oh keep the topic open. It’ll be easier to track it down and gloat then going through post history when Gears 6 launches to 7/8/9/10m players.
Please keep the topic open. The threads main purpose is to keep this discussion from infesting literally every thread on this forum.
Launching to a gigantic number of people doesn’t mean anything for the long term success of the series or the issues it my have nor it makes it void of criticism because its launching to the masses. The game will come out, be promptly received like every game in the series bar like 1 and that will be the end of it or in the same way it could come out and be another Bleeding Edge (doubt). If the series doesn’t bring more people and more importantly KEEP THEM around is it any kind of success beyond a MC number?
Netflix shows launch to 120m and they still do duds. I know its hard to comprehend but it may happen even with game pass.
BTW Sea of Thieves launched worse than Gears with “lesser graphics” and was universally panned for being devoid of content yet it managed to have more legs, bring more people in and KEEP THEM and its been more integral to xbox, game pass and its success than Gears 5 has been and thats not a hot take. The Coalition has done a terrible job back to back supporting their games post launch besides the Series X|S enhancements and Hivebusters that nobody but 4% of people bothered to complete. The way they handle maps, skins and seasonal content is horrible and its bottom of the barrel at Xbox yet they seemingly get a pass.
But hey Gears “dethroned” Fortnite for a dozen hours before people promptly moved on.
It is not their fault Hivebusters was underplayed. Xbox did a terrible job marketing the game.
As someone who loved Gears 1-3, Gears 4 and 5 were underwhelming. Gears 4 just felt like more Gears, Gears 5 tried to innovate but they clearly ran out of time and presented a half baked campaign. The multiplayer is what it is, I love it but they need to ditch it or completely overhaul it. I personally want to see The Coalition work on something else or have a complete reboot of the series, but if not, then Gears is still a solid game that is additive to the Xbox ecosystem.
heh, yeah
I think no matter what happens, Gears 6 will be the last Gears for a long time.
Unless it breaks the trend of the previous games then yeah I believe so. I dont think xbox is “mad” at the numbers but Im sure they wish it would be way higher than they are in terms of attachment.
I still think they can pivot the series to something like Outriders or focus more on the PVE aspect like Horde while also having the traditional Gears online I just wouldn’t outright waste every resource on this niche aspect or make it the highest priority one.
Yes. Gears isnt bad by any means but its kinda become “just another game” for xbox and I dont think that has anything to do with needing 6 years for a game and development.
On other news I wish the new trilogy would even come close to this moment
I still remember my friend called me stunned as soon as this scene happened. Just devastated.
Why is it a problem if most people treat Gears as a campaign. Play it and move on?
That’s Sony’s entire strategy, and they don’t seem to have an issue with it.
Because God of War sells 20m, Spider-man 30m between 2 games, HZD 12M and such and thats their whole strategy of not wasting resources on the other stuff they dont deem essential and its worked for them but they seem to want to shift this gen.
With Gears its a full package that is a waste because people arent sticking around irrelevant of how quality the games are. So something is going on that people dont care to stay around for engagement.
And Francis Im not going to debate with you since its clear you are a Gears fanboy, cant accept criticism and are constantly going for personal attacks but keep on ahead liking Gears since nobody is stopping you in the same way I wont stop calling out a franchise that I want the best for. If you think its fine as is then good for you but the series is on a downward trend since the 360 where it peaked in popularity and mindshare and thats not me making it up for random hate.
Those games don’t launch into a service where something like 20-23m get to play it without buying it.
As a result, Sony doesn’t have a service with something like 20-23m subs.
Swings and roundabouts.
All MS first party games have a job to create a diverse library for Game Pass, and Gears fills a slot there.
If you lock the thread then the inanity goes back to infecting other threads.
Yes they have a job to create a diverse library but the game also has to be played by people and grow from there. Aside from Hellblade and maybe Perfect Dark which seem to be a one and done type of entries Im sure xbox wants long term engagement on their series to go along with growth. Whats the growth with Gears?
Like Arkane is finally gonna drop a game into the masses with Redfall and we know they make good games but what happens if the engagement is not there? What if it has no long term legs? Just launching to X million of people isnt enough but I guess it depends on the game.
Do you have figures on how many people have played Gears 5 through Game Pass? I would guess the numbers are pretty high.
Edit: and MS has gone on record that they don’t in fact want any one particular type of game in game pass. They want something for everyone. One and dones, small indies, big campaigns, MMOs, GaaS, sports games – everything. Gears plays a part.
Have you seen xbox publicly share numbers for it like they do with Sea of Thieves, State of Decay, Forza and such?
If it was reaching such numbers Im sure they would be highlighting them consistently.
Is this you admitting that you have no idea how many people have played Gears 5 through Game Pass?
No Im saying that xbox usually shares milestones for X, Y and Z players of their games. Where are the Gears ones?
So you do know the number?
Do you know it? Whats the argument you are trying to make?
Sea of Thieves crosses 25 million players on Xbox and PC | Windows Central.
More people have played SoT than Gears btw - based on Microsoft’s own self reporting or lack of over Gears
