I gotta give big kudos to that studio though, I see them replying personally to the comments about issues and they are fixing it constantly. I’m not sure I’ve seen this kind of communication between dev and customer this good before.

I notice how they respond to every Xbox issue with that a patch is ready but there’s some delay from Xbox/Game Pass. I guess Sony is less strict (can be for better or worse too) when it comes to patches then.

Going in and helping could be counter productive. Especially if they make a habit of it. If, for example, Microsoft will go in and help any major release that’s struggling with optimization why would the companies even try? You just spend more of your resources on the PS/PC version and call MS up to tell them the Xbox version runs like crap and they need to come fix it.

Of course if they don’t help you have situations like this. So I’m not sure there really is a winning solution here that doesn’t involve Microsoft just becoming a bigger market force and harder to ignore.

And none of that might work if some of these marketing agreements include performance guarantees like ā€œThe PS5 version has to run as well or better than the competing versions.ā€ We don’t know those exist, but I don’t think it would surprise anyone.

I would have liked to saw the Series S have more memory, but that’s only for so users could enjoy BC games at 4K like on the One X. I think MS have one major issue and that’s so many games are leading development on the Sony consoles and also MS have done little themselves to show off the power of the Series X console.

Hopefully, Forza will really show the power of the Series X once and for all.

All that said I’m loving Atomic Heart on my Series X,

Because devs can be fangirls too. Beeing overworked deep into crunch time with extra work load doesn’t help I imagine.

Remember when devs spoke out against the Steam Deck? Mhmm.

All these games which supposedly are held back by Series S run on Steam Deck. How?!

Its extra work for development and test. But it should be not a problem for a professional multiplatform studio which already has multiple target platforms including low spec PCs and Steam Deck.

The Steam Deck’s rendering resolution is almost exactly half of 1080p and it has 16GB Ram, which is about about double what the Series S has for games. Its also just running PC builds and either it runs/runs well or it doesn’t. No one is building games specifically for it.

For an apt comparison there would have to be two different steam deck models with drastically different specs and a closed eco system with exclusive games.

Im not arguing that the Series S shouldn’t exist, its an awesome little box, and honestly the target audience for that box doesnt not care about digital foundry style comparison BS. I have bought three of them myself, one for my brother (was originally my office Xbox and he wanted one so I gave it to him), and one each for my two nieces and they all love them.

I would be lying though if I didnt say part of me kind of wished MS would have just went with the Series X. At the end of the day though, the onus is on MS to provide developers with tools to make development as easy as possible. Without any insight into whether they have or haven’t I cannot judge. If they haven’t, however, some developers may vent frustration publicly.

Probkem isnt them making an s. Its them making an s and not giving it more ram

Well the PC minimum RAM requirements aren’t always indicative of what a game requires to run on a console. Take for example A Plague Tale: Requiem which is one of the most demanding and only on current gen systems title, on PC the min RAM req is 16GB but the Series S version (which even has a fairly decent 40fps mode too) is great same with Dead Space Remake which also has a 16GB min req on PC.

Sure every game is a different situation but when you have demanding games that do a lot of different things like Metro Exodus Enhanced Edition, A Plague Tale: Requiem, MS Flight Simulator 2020 & Dead Space Remake run great on the little box then it’s not that clear cut that the 10GB of RAM is a huge problem.

The Wo Long demo can be played in fps mode or resolution. Resolution mode seems very smooth except for there’s a very brief 1 second hiccup every few seconds during gameplay. Hope this is gone in the final version because it looks nice and sharp in this mode.

At least they’re really trying to fix these issues, so kudos to them.

Their transparancy and how well and fast they communicate with the people is very refreshing and should be applauded for sure.

Oh, PC devs are absolutely checking the compatibility with the Steam Deck.

And Steam Deck has only 88 GB/s memory bandwidth. If Series S had 16 GB memory and this low of a bandwidth people would be dissing it for holding back games because of that, i can guarantee you that.

Game is a giant mess. This is the first time in all these years as a pc gamer that I could say a game has terrible pc port, mind you, i’m not like those elitists who thinks a 0.1 frame drop in a game is already a mediocre port (for example). So when I’m telling you its bad its really really bad.

What a shame. It killed what could have been an incredible performance game (speaking about sales) on steam.

Hope this fixes the missing videos bug

There’s an article about how PC port being bad is getting really ridiculous. I can’t blame them.

Edit: Found it.

You mean Wild Hearts with this?

It seems it didn’t. Just saw new tweets by the guy who posted that clip of the bugs and it’s not fixed.

the achievments one still not fixed, even ps have issues. its a developer problem (not surprised since is a first game they launch, but i hope if they made a sequel or new ip have learned theses errors), not a way xbox manage game files

sincerely it’s not big deal, you are just missing a video that probably is not relevant to game’s lore

I feel like I’ve posted this in here for sure, but to stop being so upset about perceived slights in terms of parity between platforms, you can do two things:

  • Apply (a less mean version of) Hanlon’s Razor. It’s very unlikely that a team of professional developers are intentionally not doing a good job, or that they’re torpedoing one version of their game to make another look better.

It’s probably that they don’t have infinite time and that developing is really hard. It sucks when the platform you like best isn’t doing as well when it should, but I would bet dollars to donuts that if they had their way, everything would run perfectly everywhere.

  • Stop looking at Twitter for hot takes and avoid articles that use sensationalist headlines. They feed on your outrage, it is literally giving them money when you click on a link that’s phrased to irritate you. It’s hard to overcome the impulse but - if you can - try to find the primary source.

Don’t click on Kotaku’s article that blames the Series S, look for Larian’s own post and see from the horse’s own mouth that they don’t mention that specifically. It’s disappointing, but it seems to me like there’s been an uptick in people presenting their presumptions as facts, which is a deeply irresponsible thing to do, never mind from an actual publication.
