What does this even mean?
The framerate on XSX is worse with the same settings, so much for the most powerful console. Iām keeping being disappointed with this console results in real world scenarios.
So what exactly did the team at The Coalition do? A primary focus for them was on memory and performance optimizations to fully take advantage of both Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S. Because the experience features an incredibly large and dense world with a staggering amount of content, the first step was working on memory optimization. In that area, they worked with Epic to ensure the assets in the demo were set up to fully leverage virtual texture streaming and nanite wherever possible and tuned internal memory systems, especially on Xbox Series S, to ensure it all fit in the memory.
On the performance optimizations side, the teams made some threading improvements to improve utilization of the CPU cores. They also made some Xbox Raytracing optimizations, resulting in performance wins of about 0.5ms. Finally, they enabled Vertical Sync tuning to ensure a stable FPS throughout the experience.
With this focus, the Xbox Series S version shipped with all the same UE5 features enabled as Xbox Series X (albeit with different quality) including but not limited to raytraced reflections and raytraced shadows. Regardless of which platform you experience it on, youāre in for a visual treat.
Cool narrative, I look forward to seeing you keep pushing it and ignoring all the times where it doesnāt hold true.
I understand you want to die on that hill, but for some reasons XSX hardly seems more powerful than PS5 like specs would suggest.
That last part, yeah, agreed. I can recall several games this year like Hitman 3 where it had the edge over PS5, not a big one, but one nonetheless. Also several other games I recall DF concluding that XSX was doing a better job at it.
As for the Matrix demo, I donāt know why the framrrate apparently is worse , especially when TC even optimized it. Iām fairly certain weāll hear DF about it, maybe an explanation.
you are missing the point that UE5 is currently more optimized for ps5 because epic and sony were working together into the launch of the ps5. the very first demo was done on a ps5. If lets say the Ps5 still outperformed the xbox series x in a CryEngine new demo, then iād raise the same point as you.
There are still some odd ones here and there but I definitely recall reading here and posting here several times this year favourable results for multiplatform titles on X.
Your phrasing is needlessly combative. Why would I care to ādie on that hillā? Iām not a console warrior, I donāt give a crap about either company. The Series X can do more mathematical equations in less time, thus it being more powerful. Power isnāt everything, Please stop talking this way, it does not lead to a healthy discussion.
Figure of speach, you wonāt paint me as a console warrior to strenghten your message. XD
Anyway, can we say XSX seems to be severly underused by the industry at large?
More so, there are factors that are clearly being ignored with this kind of reductive statement (which does tinge with console warring).
- Itās been well-discussed by some developers and journalists/insiders that Xbox tools being a revolution rather than an evolution (unlike Sonyās tools) has hurt it in the short-term, but should benefit the ecosystem in the long-term
- Iāve seen too many comments mitigate/reduce, or completely ignore, examples where the Series hardware outperformed its Sony brethren (not always as the delta of actual hardware spec would imply, which again see the last point). Whether intentional or not, doing so in a discussion supposed to be based on data/fact doesnāt do much to avoid assumptions of a console-warring/trolling agenda.
- In specific regards to this demo, as others have mentioned, itās a safe bet that UE5 being more optimized on PS5 has a lot to do with the partnership and investments Sonyās made; think of it as an inverse to the Xbox and Epic situation with UE3.
Furthermore, Iād suggest waiting for multiple data sources before drawing any definitive conclusions; weāve seen āconflictsā from different sources before. The hardware delta is definitely there, and thatās before we talk about the additional Series hardware capabilities and software multipliers, but the tools have taken some time to get up to snuff; when they do/did, itās not as if all of the inefficiencies are automatically resolved (and for projects at the tail end of development likely not at all). Weāre seeing some of the results of the Series hardware capabilities but Iād be more than willing to bet weāll see RDR2-level deltas in multi-platform titles within the next year or so, and weāre definitely seeing the results of some elements of that aforementioned hardware/software capabilities with titles like Horizon 5.
I know this may be a bit late, but itās more directly related to the topic than the ad nauseam FUD we often see, but has anyone else experienced frame-pacing issues with the Skyrim Anniversary Edition? Iāve tested on three separate Series X consoles and when in towns and some other areas, the stuttering when rotating the camera is jarring to the point of being nigh-unplayable. The previous Special Edition with FPS Boost did not have this problem at all. In true Troubleshooter-Fashion, Iāve installed the title on the internal drive, external SSDs, and external HDDs with the same result (I wanted to ensure it wasnāt a particular issue with my Expansion card). Iāll be testing shortly with Series S, but canāt test on PS5, so if anyone is able to Iād appreciate it. Iād like to provide some additional testing to my contacts at Bethesda in case theyāre not aware.
So thatās what the feels likeā¦.
Iāll go test this out. So you mean towns like Riverwood, bigger cities like Whiterun and the other few? Good stuff that you can pass this on to Bethesda.
I do notice the frame chuggs a bit in certain towns even with VRR on but much less in open areas.
You start feeling that motor oil slugg in the image and its a bit off putting at times.
Thatās a great point I overlooked: VRR. Iāll test again this afternoon with it off and see if I get the same result. Iām about to boot up the game on the Series S while on a quick break.
Iāve seen it in Whiterun, fort exteriors, Riften⦠almost everywhere aside from āstandardā wilderness or interiors.
Ok, Iāve tested Whiterun, Rorikstead, Riverwood and itās buttery smooth here, no issues. I have VRR on.
I do have a weird freeze at the main menu after booting it up. It shows the Skyrim logo but it doesnāt move and I canāt do anything until almost a minute later. It takes way too long to load that, I donāt get why that is. Pre patch it was instant.
Maybe Iāll delete all my saves since Iām planning on going for a full new playthrough anyway. See if this helps.
