Saw the video

Promising update but the framerate is all over the place

Especially in ray tracing

It’s also in BC mode

VRR saves the day again

It’s a shame because on some modes it’s almost there. Hopefully with some patches they can get to a more stable framerate

I think you might be surprised…

Yep, crysis is basically flawless with VRR. Ultra smooth and super clean looking. Even the RT mode is actually very well smooth with VRR.

But I definitely don’t recommend it playing right now if your TV doesn’t support it. The framerate judder makes it an instant headache

Are developers being too optimistic with resolution on series X?

I believe developers are counting with VRR to stabilize performance, which the PS5 doesn’t support.

On one hand it is not ideal because the majority of players doesn’t have a TV that supports VRR; on the other hand the majority of players who really care about framerate (not the ones who cares only because of console wars) has a capable TV.

I don’t think so.

None of these games are taking full advantage of next gen hard ware. The ray tracing in this game doesn’t even use the ray tracing hardware.

We are very niche. PS4 has sold 115 million units; Resetera has around 50k members. And even so, the thread talking about the CX has way more traffic than the ones discussing Digital Foundry’s analysis.

When you go past the console wars bullshit on DF’s tweets, people are usually discussing their CX and Q80T settings.

I don’t have a cx or anything. I bought my tv in 2018 and probably will keep it the next three years. Unless someone somehow spend me a tv lol

Me too. I have a budget 4K TV from 2017. But I also always choose the Quality mode over the Performance mode.

I like stable fps and it should be achievable without vrr

There are all games running in BC mode.

BC mode is for both PS5 and series X.

PS5 is at lower resolution and has beeter frames the series X.

That’s why I am asking. Series X offers 120 fps support in many games. But falls short in many games at 60fps compared to PS5.

This whole cross gen year is wierd to be honest
