In an interview with Nikkei, Tsujimoto said that the company has found the high price of the PS5 to be a major hurdle for consumers, which has turned out to be a serious obstacle to trying to build out a mass-market franchise like Monster Hunter.

Tsujimoto’s sentiments aren’t uncommon – I’ve heard plenty of industry executives voice concerns about high costs raising the barriers for entry in the console market in recent years.
It’s why the Series S was a great idea but a shame it’s had to go up in price and has been so bad mouthed in the gaming media - between the costs and many gamers sticking to a few live service games that still play on last gen, we’re heading for trouble.
Hopefully approaches like a scaling level of potential Xbox consoles with PC crossover (cheaper games, more choice) help to alleviate it - otherwise the biggest AAA games that people want will have to run on everything from PS4 to PS6 in order to recoup their costs and make a decent profit…
And if that starts to happen, people will have even less reason to buy the latest consoles and graphics cards - which are already diminishing returns graphics wise…
well ms did try to make a low-cost console but gamers complained. now those same gamers complain about high prices. to me the worst part about gaming as a hobby is not the corporations like ea but the actual toxic gamers themselves. It’s hard to tell are they the majority or minorities…
Well you’ve got to hope it’s a vocal minority or gaming is done.
It’s the same with game prices, forum posters all over moaning about $70 game prices but then when someone try’s an alternative model (Mafia old country as one example) the same people are whining about how empty the open world is and that they will wait for a deep sale before buying it.
So if they represent the majority of gamers the business model collapses eventually.
