Game Pass tiers and pricing changes announced for September

This only worth using when you’re subscription is running out. Still have one year left and we don’t know if they don’t change the converting rate again.

Nah I think that’s fine. I was in Spain for 2 weeks and using rewards daily and nothing happens.

I’ve read that you can kinda reset it. Dunno if it’s true or not.

240 dollars per year is almost half the price of the console itself. People used to buy games at a discount as well, most Americans live paycheck to paycheck, most games dont deserve day One buy nowadays still I dont think this Will grow the service even more sincerely the value is just too steep now IMO.

I think it just depends now, if you have more free time to spend in games, if you are the kind of player that loves to try many games or if you prefer spend your time on games you know and like and only try games that review very well or games from genres you love, etc.

It’s not the no brainer deal that many people subscribed to no matter what, but it’s not all black or white either, even if i wouldn’t perma sub at a certain price point, i would still sub some specific months, for example the last months of the year where MS normally drops all his guns, while the first half that’s usually dry could be a good time to just unsub for a while.

I had to set the auto-redeem on console. Though I see the auto-redeem showing up via the web now. I don’t know when they brought it to web too. I set mine up around November (?) of last year. It’s an extra little bit of savings.

To make the most out of it, I should set auto-redeem up for $10 credits, but sometimes I don’t have anything to pickup and the account balance expires in like 3 months I think. So I stick with GPU code.

What is the best way to get 6 months of GPU for current subscribers?

Being grandfathered on ur sub, does this apply if ur month to month… what if u cancel 1 month then resub ?

Check the Xbox support FAQ, but canceling would end ur grandfathered status as i recall

This is oh so true for anyone who is mentally strong enough to not have to play the latest games to feel in touch with the gaming community

Someone pm me how to sign up for more than a month pls, the trick ?

As long as the monthly option remains and im not required to pay for an entire year ($240), im fine with the price increase because it literally changes nothing for me personally.

Next week - Flintlock: The Siege of Dawn and the second half of Hellblade 2!!

The squeeze is real here in Aus, probably the first time i will have to think about cancelling in about 3? Years (not a pity party just a reality)

Do people just buy 3 monthly cards? Cant be bothered with vpn.

It was too good of an offer for a long long time.

It’s bad for consumers, but also understandable.

Games are £70 bro, so if you’re someone who plays a lot or buys a lot of games, 240 is nothing

Besides, the monthly option is still there, if people find it steep they don’t need to sub perpetually, there’s also nothing stopping them from buying cheaper codes elsewhere

That being said, I don’t think this is going to be too steep for most current subs, the amount of people that will leave GPU will be minimal and offset by the gains they make from the increased prices

Not to mention this is before CoD gets added

Just loaded up my GPU sub at Cdkeys before prices went up, lol. Was like 30 and change for a 3 month card, so like half of what it’ll be after the price hike. Tried to make out but my CC got angry at me and thought the second transaction was fraud lol.

After deducting the cost of online ($75/year) which I would pay anyway I need about 2 AAA first party games from Xbox day one to make the sub worth it. That is ignoring all the other benefits and just focusing on what I primarily sub for.

It would have to get pretty bleak on the first party release front or go up a lot more in price to not make sense to have Game Pass, even with those harsh requirements.

Could you imagine doing this in 2022 instead? If MW3 releasing this month is true, it’s going to be their ad to say you would want to upgrade to Ultimate when BO6 releases. It’s also why the rumor about ABK games coming to service is surfacing now prior to this announcement.

I don’t think anyone here mentioned, but the earning call is in this month. There is a good chance to shed some detail on their plan.

But games aren’t £70.

They’re only $70/£70/80 euros if someone has to get them right there on day one. Most of these titles all drop in price very quickly. This industry is even more questionable in terms of day one value because the product itself always improves over time with patches/updates/extra content.

For example someone who buys Starfield today for a discounted price will play a better game than those who paid for early access last September.

It sucks but that’s just the way it is. So I really don’t look at Gamepass & its value in terms of comparing it to £70 brand new releases but in terms of how much game time I put into & which titles I play on the service.

In that respect someone (for example) who subs to the service to play Doom (the 2016 title) probably has more reason to question the logic of the monthly fee considering that particular game can often be picked up for as little as $3 or thereabouts during sales. It essentially means the back catalogue of titles on the service are seeing their value diminish each month as these titles get older.

There’s something else to consider though & that’s the fact a lot of big titles aren’t on the service. So you’re doing gamepass value math versus the cost of new releases whilst overlooking the fact if someone wants to play Baldur’s Gate 3, Dragon’s Dogma 2, Cyberpunk 2077, Hogwarts, Assassin’s Creed or any of that stuff, then paying 18 euros a month for Gamepass whilst devoting 50 hours to beat a game which wasn’t on the service makes the ongoing investment in Gamepass a question mark.

At 18 euros a month it ceases to be a cost I can just ignore in the background & becomes something I notice. I suspect many others will be in the same boat (especially within the context of sub services increasing in price across the board).

Gp used to be a too good to be true subscription, now it’s just another subscription. Didn’t ms come out in court and say the price wouldn’t go up in the near future? If they’re now going back on things they said in court, I think it’s safe to say anything ms execs say in interviews or twitter have zero weight to them, they’ll do what they want and that’s it.
