Nice review!

I had higher hopes for it but it still looks like a good game, will eventually try it since it’s on Game Pass.

The part about brightness sounds a bit annoying, would be nice if they fix that. If not I guess I’ll have to change my TV settings.

Good review Jesse.

Working tomorrow but looking forward to starting the game Friday as I have a four day weekend off from work. Yay me!! lol

It doesn’t give a good first impression, that’s for sure.

I’ve burn myself out on Souls-like titles recently, so maybe that’s that, but the game throws everything at you in about half an hour and put you against normal ennemies with huge life bars as bosses. Maybe I missing something, idk.

Just a tip but there’s a lot to explore and some alternative paths to keep track of for later. Also, tears are used as shortcuts, like ladders and doors you unlock in Souls.

Last but not least, lighting looks rough, either it’s too dark to see anything or it’s washed out, even tinkering with the settings.

I love everything about the game. For me personally it’s a game of the year contender :v:10/10

I saw some clips of it and people say it’s bad HDR. How is SDR?

I have Dolby Vision. The game looks nice in my opinion. People are being way too nitpicky about this game, what’s the deal… Why is this game getting so much hate?

Flintlock is really cool.

Haven’t played it myself yet because with this murderous weather I can’t be going Xboxing.

But I saw some clips on Twitter by Niko and it was daytime in the game but it looked very dim, definitely off.

My comment is just my own impression. I’m not bashing the game or anything, it’s just not for me.

I think it gets better when unlocking more combat options and trying to use all your tools, like Jesse said in his review, but I don’t have the patience right now. As I said, the first hour is tough on the player and I have other games I want to play.

I played 1h30 before calling it quits. It’s fine.

Game is a bit short, rolled credits. Pretty much my only criticism of the game. Still probably makes my top ten, just somewhere in the back half. Short games can be awesome too, just hard for me to justify calling it a game of the year contender when I finished it in a weekend

didnt like the combat and the graphics and the whole souls style gaming. Its a pass from me since i have too many good games to play right now. Already bought metro exodus on sale so my backlog is growing.

I dropped it after the first two hours. The audio was really off for me, especially dialogue. The animations in general felt very stiff, the combat was so so and the general world/graphics were pretty middling.

I was really disappointed with this game… back to Starfield it is

Game itself and environments look really good but the game in a lot of areas even with sunlight are darker than they should be. I increased the brightness from 50 to 70 in game and on my LG CX OLED because especially when inside caves, you can’t see shit.

There are issues with the game itself. My biggest complaint is when controlling Nor as she’s way too loose and floaty. Her movement needs to be tightened up. Also, when platforming, you’ll miss because of the loose and floaty nature. Playing on story difficulty since it is a souls game, I have died twice but both times were because I fell to my death because Nor wouldn’t grab on to the ledge or I double jump/dash and she goes the wrong way.

There’s an UI issue in the menus when highlighting an item, the overlay box overlaps with the top of the screen and covers up your inventory items.

Game itself is good but I can understand why it’s a 70 on Open Critic especially since it’s an AA souls like game and majority of reviewers are probably coming off the Elden Ring expansion.

I’m about 12 hours into the game and enjoying it for the most part. As of now, it’s between a 7 and an 8 for me. It’s a good solid souls like but for me, Steel Rising is better which is also a AA souls like and I rated that one an 8.5/10 as I loved the combat and gameplay in it where as with Flintlock, im liking the combat and gameplay but im not loving it due to Nor being loose and floaty.

Still a good game overall though thus far. Will see how the rest goes as I do have a ways to go.

So far really enjoying Flintlock! I haven’t really gone to deed into the skill tree, so for me what makes the best improvements into the combat has been equipment. But I have gotten some skills that compliment my weapons.

I have a helmet that increases fire arm damage by %20(28 currently after upgrading), as long as the fire arm has full charges. So I’m using a single shot power pistol, that does like 90 damage. I complement it with the skill that allows Enki’s curse attacks being able to build up fire arm charge, the charge fire arm for more damage, plus the fire arm counter.

The axe I’m using is an axe that sets burning on hit, it’s damn good because even when an enemy has a shield. Burning status still applies, I also compliment it with the faster attack/10% more damage and the charged melee(with this axe it causes and explosion when hitting a fully charged attack). The fact we get it so early on is such a boom.

I have also gotten 2 new guns on the way to Jung. One is the mortar we pick up on the way and the other us the ricochet cannon at the top of the mine, above the last ambush.

So far my only complaints is the lose feeling camera, the clamber being inconsistent after a double jump(I think I need to jump earlier), and the UI being stuck on the left of the screen at all times(I feel if I select something on the left screen the UI showing I for for that item should open on the right).

Edit: quick update for how things are shaping up.

The axe explosive damage is either tied to placing a curse on an enemy, or it’s on some cool down.

The ricochet cannon shreds through enemy armor, I tested it on the knights dressed like the sentinel(winged helmets). A single hit leaves them without an armor bar.

So I see why we need to learn to parry and why it’s so necessary. The Rammuha fight was definitely about having the needed weapon(hammer) and parrying all her regular attacks, any other combinations would have taken too long to do.

Beat it. Solid game and a nice jump forward for A44.

Dukmar was way easier than Rammuha, while I did have more healing I felt his mechanics weren’t as punishing. I kind of feel Rammuha and Dukmar should have switched places.
