I was hoping for a cloud device but this is extremely absurd, it is a Remote Play-focused device. You need a PS5 for this.
I hope this flops as hard if not harder than PSVR2. These dudes are completely out of their minds.
Wont be for me but I’m intrigued to see more
Delayed April Fools?
Even the most died in the wool Sony fan can’t possibly be interested in this. A remote play device that does exactly what your phone can do - or a plethora of other dedicated handhelds - but with countless more restrictions that will almost certainly be (in typical PlayStation fashion) ridiculously overpriced.
I said it before, but I’ll say it again: Companion device to PS5? Dead on arrival.
they are so jelly @MS investing into handled platforms without creating one.
Thankfully, Microsoft decided to only work on the devices they’re good at instead of trend chasing like in the past.
I would have liked a real Steam Deck like handheld better. Would have instantly killed the stupid narrative about the generation beeing held back by the Series S.
I would rather buy the upcoming Asus ROG Ally. Game Pass, Steam, Win 11 and more powerful than the Steam Deck.
So do I understand right that you need to have a PS5 nearby for this? If yes, what’s the point?
I’d rather just play on my big screen TV.
I believe you can play via internet. But really, if that’s your only option, you’re basically pulling another PSVR2.
I’m intrigued to see more of it. The price will be the verdict.
I actually really like these devices. I have a AYN Odin Lite and it’s a great little device for streaming from my Series X while lying in bed. Sony would actually probably make a pretty solid device and would likely be able to be pretty competitive on pricing. However, I am concerned that PS would lock down PS+ streaming to this device or lockout other services. If I’m remembering correctly they locked down Remote Play to their Xperia phones in the early days. I think there used to be a long running thread on the XDA Forums to hack the APK to get it running on other devices.
I genuinely think a cloud only handheld is a good idea but this remote play only is dumb. I know many would hiss at a cloud only but there are many upsides to it, obviously there are some pretty big downsides to it. I think there is a world for both, dedicated hardware and cloud only.
There are so many arguments for both sides that I wouldn’t be shocked if Microsoft is struggling to pick which way to go.
I guess they’re going for some of the convenience of the Switch, one person can watch tv while another plays PS5 on their remote play device - they had the same thing on the Vita and the PS4. But that was just a bonus feature in an already competent handheld, I don’t quite understand why they’d release an entire device focused around this. Especially when the only reason I can’t just do this with my Vita and the PS5 is they stopped supporting it
Unless this is dirt cheap, this seems utterly pointless
More Gimmick? PSVR 2 and now this.
What a waste. Sigh
