Everwild completely rebooted and targets 2024 - Gregg Mayles has taken over the project

wow which game has a colab with disney as of recently?

Bad news, even if “starting from scratch” and the like are clearly exaggerations, this situation adds to the “MS cannot manage its studios” narrative in an unhealty way for Xbox brand, they should make some sort of statement to clear the doubts.

A move like this reminds us of the Nintendo roots in Rare. Glad Gregg is on it as he’s a world class designer.

Louise O’Connor seems to be really happy :woman_shrugging:

Maybe it was even her who asked for that change.

Something real neat I’ve noted from following all the various Rare employees is how they are all VERY proud of their time working at the studio. They are constantly tweeting about how cool it is that they hit their anniversary of starting there. Literally once a week or so I see someone there talking about it and how great it has been.

i hope none of them visit this thread and see some shitposter wishing for the closure of their studio :man_facepalming:

There is something really wrong with people who think like that.

I bet it started out as a single-player and now it’s multiplayer only. Microsoft really doesn’t like single player experiences.

It’s not so much that they dislike singleplayer as much as like multiplayer a lot more. Ori is proper singleplayer. I’m sure Hellblade 2 will be as well. I do hope Everwild is much better at solo play than SoT

22 announced games in development. How many are multiplayer only? None?

Microsoft does like to add co-op, for Gears, Halo, etc.

You know, ever since MS acquired Rare they got a lot of hate. ‘‘Oh this isn’t the old Rare anymore, they’re trash’’ etc. But the unfair part is that Rare had to go through a difficult nearly 20 year to finally get where they are…where they have complete creative freedom. Even Sea Of Thieves was rushed because they had to, if it was up to them they would have held it off until it was content complete. But ever since Phil got a seat at the MS table and MSs vision changed along with their resources, now studios can and are advised to only release games whenever they’re ready and not a day sooner. They can afford that now. So for me, this will be Rare’s 1st game where they have full creative freedom in not only what they’re making but when they want to release it as well.

Sea of Thieves is a very unique game. No other game quite like that out there. And Everwild looks like the best thing, visually, that Rare is working on. Someone said it before, I hope they keep that art style. It reminded me of a more beautiful version of a Zelde/Nintendo game in a way. Rare is that AAA studio that makes games with the indie risk/creativity mindset. They make unique games, and Everwild is the most unique one based on their vision. So it’s understandable that it’s a complete ‘‘reboot’’. I wish them the best because it’s not an easy task.

This is a really dumb thing to say. It’s Rare’s decision here, not Microsoft’s. And if you’ve been paying attention you’d see they’ve announced plenty of single-player games.

I think that Evewild won’t be multiplayer, at max it’ll be co-op.

They already have SoT as a service game, I guess they wouldn’t like to keep supporting another like that.

I’ve never played a Banjo game. Best to start with the first and go forward, or start with the 360 game?

Or that whatever they wanted to do never translated to a proper game hence why after 3 years we never heard what it was supposed to be.

Playtonic yes, Yooka Laylee 3D was mediocre but at least The Impossible Lair was a great platformer with a really cool overworld and you could actually have fun while jumping obstacles in that game. Playful on the other hand couldn’t even make the director’s cut of Super Lucky’s Tale decent…such a soulless, boring and dull game. Hopefully they will stay away from Banjo-Kazooie. -_-
