The price suggests to me that there weren’t a lot of parties interested after they studied the numbers. It’s not just MS. There are certainly things we don’t know. Maybe their western division was bleeding money or whatever.

Incredible deal by Embracer! Im very happy for IPs like Tomb Raider, Deus Ex or Sleeping Dogs. They are in better hands now. SE is absolutely useless, proven by the pricetag.

SE to Sony would be amazing. They spend billions of their acquisitions budget on a publisher that makes 0 games I care about and would stop them from targeting some other acquisitions that could possibly affect me personally. Awesome.

How does Embracer keep getting these bargains? First 4A Games and Metro for 36m now this for just 300m. I’m truly shocked no one offered more!

That’s because I suspect their play is to own production and not necessarily distribution.
They are really good with money. When others wonder 'why would anybody play this" they embrace their back catalog. There is a lot of money in old games. Nintendo and Capcom know this (and also have high margins).

But it is incredibly cheap. I guess there is (and this might be it) the reason why Microsoft hired Crystal Dynamics to work on Perfect Dark. But it does make sense as later Crystal Dynamics might become busy with another game for example and Microsoft won’t be able to hire them anymore or something…
I wonder if Sony was not interested in Tomb Raider because they have Uncharted and Microsoft because they have Indiana Jones (but it is not their IP and they could own Tomb Raider). Deus Ex & Thief…Well, Microsoft owns Arkane now so with Shadowrun and other stuff they kinda have something similar.

Ok but MS spent $7.5b on a AAA single player focused publisher, and I don’t know much on the 2018/19 acquisitions a lot of are single player focused studios
