Embracer Group has entered into an agreement to acquire Crystal Dynamics, Eidos-Montréal, Square Enix Montréal (~1,100 employees) and a catalogue of IPs including Tomb Raider, Deus Ex, etc (total up $300M)

Probably Capcom

Just saw it includes 50 IP’s. Wow. UGH.

Hmm, could it possibly be a Hollywood movies and tv productions company looking to remove their games division off of there balance sheet? Nah too obvious

I guess I am too.

If that’s the case, I’ll be happier!

Would have preferred an acquisition by MS (because I’m cheap and want “free” games) but this is probably one of the better things that could have happened. Hopefully the dormant IPs get a new lease on life and the studios are managed properly. Don’t want to cast aspersions, especially since I’m just a layman, but it always seemed like these studios were an afterthought to S-E.

The pessimist in me says that this is S-E slimming down for a Sony acquisition though. That would be awful

Me too, but I won’t get my hopes up lol.

I honestly think MS is just laying low right now until ABK closes. No reason to jeopardize the deal. They bought the best SP publisher and are well on their way to picking up industry-leading MP and Mobile ones. They can also pivot some of the ABK support studios to help at any time going forward. Like, as much as I love these studios, I don’t see them worth risking a Blizzard for, especially when the home is Embracer, a studio friendly to MS that will keep things multiplatform and honour the PD contract.

That said, I also question if MS was made party to this at all. Because this was a steal and if I was them, I’d offer like $600 in 2 years.

Me too then. I really don’t give af about CoD, Candy Crush or Overwatch. I also am not a major shareholder in MS so I care about things from my perspective as a gamer first and foremost.

ABK is the best deal for Microsoft business. Nothing is even comparable.

I think that is a realistic assumption. However, Sony allready have them pretty much in their pocket so not much will change. Square Enix is meh, except for the Western division.

I am Grubb today implied Square Enix acquisition today.

Now, I guess a lot of people would be dissappointed if due to ABK deal Microsoft missed :joy:

  • Square Enix West
  • Square Enix
  • Ubisoft
  • WB

Wish I were a Microsoft businessman.

This day showed us these insiders know nothing about aquisitions.

As a gamer, you’re still out of your mind. All these studios have already had their games on Xbox gamepass. Embraced is third party and we can still play these games. ABK is the biggest move in gaming since Xbox entered the console space.
