Embracer Group has entered into an agreement to acquire Crystal Dynamics, Eidos-Montréal, Square Enix Montréal (~1,100 employees) and a catalogue of IPs including Tomb Raider, Deus Ex, etc (total up $300M)

Take 2 and EA both bidding hard on it. So they see some value we don’t.

It is something as EA and T2 were interested in buying them.

Probably because they both really need a car studio, EA needs one for Need for Speed and Take Two most likely wanted one for GTA help and to revive Midnight Club, it’s not always about what the studio owns but can be more about what the buyer needs.

Codemaster racing games does have potential to make money post launch. F1 for example got microtransactions and same with dirt series i believe. Also having F1 license does have potential with auto racing seeing a lot of growth in viewership. Plus, they can always attach codemaster studios for one of their established IPs which can easily implement micortransactions.

GRID and Dirt must make decent money or they wouldn’t keep making them year after year I guess. :man_shrugging:

Nah I think it’s like I said in a previous post it’s more about EA and Take Two needing a good car dev studio, like yeah coming with IP is nice too.

So who is Square Enix gonna blame low sales on now?

Nobody to blame when Forspoken bombs.

Maybe they’ll still blame Square West anyway

Codemasters produce recurring racing games like F1 and will get WRC license (via EA) while being highly experienced in rally games.

My money’s on “CD Project Red”

  • A heavy-RPG studio for Sony
  • GOG PC store
  • Multiple support studios
  • Presence in the emerging Poland game industry
  • Popular games. No matter how CP2077 was released, The Witcher 4 will likely break records.

Not enough NFTs. It will prove that gamers are only interested in “pay to earn” games.

I don’t think so. They could heard about Sony being in talks with WB or Square Enix. And we know now what happened. Let’s wait and see.

“Gamers did not understand the art of NFT”. I mean haven’tUbisoft blamed gamers for NFT recent?

Unsure if this is just me thinking this, but if Square’s blockchain gamble fails. Then I see them being for sale very soon

Crazy news and crazy price for all those studios and IP’s! Also all this sounds great to me since the games will continue to be multiplatform plus we will probably see IP’s like Sleeping Dogs and Deus Ex (fuck yeah!) back from the dead!

About MS “missing” this deal, first of all MS won’t be able to buy everything plus if I were Phil I’d focus my attention to the Japanese industry for any potential future acquisitions since Xbox always was and still is very very well covered in terms of western games (both 1st and 3rd party wise).

Following Ubisoft lead :joy: I mean even now they mainly rely on FF14 for everything.
