Elden Ring |OT| Rise Tarnished & Become The Elden Lord (of the dance!)

Hmm I get both sides here. It doesn’t really make sense to put out data that no one gets to experience anyway. On the other hand it’s dumb these day 1 patches really just land on launch day and not before. These super tight timeframes are never good and I dont get why they cant put it out a week earlier.

That could be a limitation from the platforms themselves (Xbox/PS/Steam)

Good to see they improved the character creator. I hope they made getting the right kind of skin tone easier too. Whenever I would try making a character with skin darker than the default I get some odd shade im not satisfied with.

People are really wilding out in the Resetera thread over this. It doesn’t seem like that big a deal, and if you’re really worried that this might indicate a major performance problem with the game, then just don’t preorder and wait for the coverage.

That’s because it is not a big deal. If the day one makes a difference to performance etc, which we have seen in the past, then BN is in their right to ask for DF to show the type of performance that the gamer will actually experience.

DF putting a lot of trust in Bandai and From. If the game performs poorly post day one patch DF will take as much or more crap for it than the publisher now.

I’m pretty sure in the past we’ve seen performance analysis articles that also indicate the developer said an issue was fixed in the Day One Patch. I’d be willing to bet the issues in the pre-day one patch build aren’t just a couple frame rate drops.

I feel like there are a lot of publishers and developers who would not get that courtesy.

Why would they? DF won’t publish their content until it’s ready, and if people preorder in the meantime and are unhappy with the game, that’s on them, not DF.

Maybe in a world full of logical gamers. We’ll see how that works out.

Most of them work with DF because they’ve become so big

Global simultaneous unlock so timezone hopping won’t do anything on Steam.

60 hours down. Haven’t beaten it (tried a bunch of classes out to see how each felt) but I’m getting “close”. Time to start…

Going for a 92 metacritic

God, I hate having to score things. Around 3000 words written, hopefully at least a few read them to understand how I feel instead of just looking at the damned score :doge:.

Video is going to end up being 16 or 17 minutes long I bet.

A perfect 10 should be an easy score to calculate.

I just hope From fixed the “issues” it had on network test for Xbox. It fell under PS5 in several things and that should not happen. Iirc Sekiro had more frame drops than Pro on One X but also had a higher resolution.

I believe Polygon used to do something where the reviewer would write up the review and the rest of the staff would read it and assign the score. Have you thought about implementing something like this?

One X had more drops and IIRC it was native 1800p while it was checkerboard 1800p on the Pro, still there should have been a 30fps option in the enhanced consoles. Sadly the network test of ER on the One X/Pro was still uncapped and it hovered in the no man’s land of 35-50fps.

To be honest I am already sure that there will be performance issues on all platforms to an extent, I have accepted that playing a From game on a console comes with performance issues (either it is problematic frame-pacing, unlocked frame-rate or frame drops) so I have made my peace. :man_shrugging:

Dark Souls on PS360 had frame drops to the 10-15fps range… Blighttown gave people nightmares
