Elden Ring |OT| Rise Tarnished & Become The Elden Lord (of the dance!)

Yeah I’ve had a few cases where I’d already fought a side dungeon boss as a regular enemy before facing it as a boss, partly cause of exploring in weird directions admittedly. Definitely a relief to walk in and go “oh I already know how to handle this enemy”. But then the main bosses, oh wow they are not messing around. I’ve got at least one on the backburner till I feel a little more ready.

Regarding open world events for people in the know…

I know the bosses spawn in the open world (or at least some do). I’ve fought Red Wolf of Radagon and Margit, but only Margit gave me a reward. Is this normal or did my Radagon possibly get bugged?

You fought them in the open world?

This game is truly something special that is clearly deserving of the praise based on my many hours so far over the weekend, and that is coming from someone who isn’t really a souls type gamer. I have died a ridiculous number of times, but the world is so large and fascinating to explore that I have kept exploring and building my sorcery character up to where I was able to finally beat the first main boss Margit (a victory yell from my couch too) and took down the stupid Tree Sentinel at the start too  This is the type of game that you will be thinking about wanting to get back playing and likely to remember the little personal “stories” of gameplay in a way that frankly you just don’t get with a playthrough of many standard even good to great AAA story based action games that you end up forgetting about soon after. I had one of those stories against Margit where I was on an awesome run where he was way down in health when I hadn’t even used any healing elixir yet, and I somehow managed to roll my way off of the cliff. It made me upset (understatement), but it was certainly memorable and humorous in its own painful way. And of course the moment that I beat him after that was so satisfying.

This game really feels like how games used to feel in some ways before everyone analyzed everything on social media and such. You are being challenged, exploring a mysterious world, and talking to friends (my boys are also playing it and having a great time) about it because you aren’t just being led by the hand through another AAA open world game (yes I enjoy some of those too of course).

And performance on the Series X has been really good for me (note that I do have a VRR TV). I never felt that performance was messing me up during gameplay at all. I only ever really noticed some frame slowdown in the open world with rain at times as some others have mentioned, which wasn’t a big deal. I guess it would be nice if the loading times could be lowered on the Xbox consoles as compared to the PS5 because that doesn’t really make sense here, but I haven’t really noticed that as a concern during gameplay probably because I need an extra few seconds of time to unwind between some hairy moments.

Yep. Respawned in the open world.

Margit around Outer Wall Battleground (I think) and the Red Wolf around Behind Caria Manor grace points.

How many elder shards do you have atm. I’m about 2 in, just killed the witch in Ray Lucaria

Oh my gooood lmfaoooo how many times do yall still do this, I’m still trying to unlearn it

Like I’ve literally wasted time getting to a site of lost grace and sitting down to travel like I used to in DS3 and realizing wait that’s just in the map. :joy: :man_facepalming:

btw @Doncabesa

why tf am I losing a percentage of runes every time I pick them back up after I die? I don’t remember that being a thing in DS3, at least AFAIR.

Not sure, never noticed it myself but @SoulBlazerz seems to have the same thing going on.

okay I just googled it and there’s a reason for it lol. This might be a localized thing cuz I am currently playing in/nearby the Stormveil castle. Apparently, that is because there’s a prisoner in Stormveil castle who is stealing some amount of the runes every time from the chunk you drop after dying. No idea where the prisoner is though and killing him/confronting him will stop that from happening I guess. Lol very interesting, I wish this had a little bit of a better exposition so I didn’t have to google it thinking it was some new change in the game or maybe even a bug, and ruin it for myself seeing there was an in-world reason at that location. Oh well, at least I still don’t know where the guy is so that’s fine I guess. Now I can go in search of his ass.

At lest 3 times every time I play

I honestly felt a bit weird beating Margit on my second or third try with the help of Sorcerer Rogier. But fuck it, Idc

lol im gonna save this. I have a friend who is the guy on the left. " your not really playing if its solo" I agree the game is more fun solo but the coop is the easy mode and its still just fun

Reminder that you didn’t really beat a boss if you

-summoned

-Used ranged magic

-Used a shield

-Used a Straight sword

-Wore armor

-Were playing a class other than wretch

-played with a normal controller

(in all seriousness I don’t use summons myself but hey no disrespect to those who do)

I used Rogier from the start. Still took me until my fifth try though. I came close multiple times, but kept falling from the cliff.

I haven’t found a single armor set after 20+ hours lmao!

Sorry but if I could Play this game summoning all the way through for the first playthrough, having Solaire be there for the final fight with Gwyn was just the best. Same with having Lucatiel for the fight with the Ivory King in DS2.

I accidentally went around the castle where Margit is and have finally just got around to beating him. Managed on my first try after playing the game for 10 hours. Think I was just over powered at lvl 23 as I’m playing Prisoner class with some good gear.

I’ve been thinking to myself “man, when will I ever get to some dungeons? It’s been hours!” Gotta be honest tho, the mystery of exploring the world is just as fun. Especially going in blind and not looking at shit online.

Thank you Elden Ring for instilling in me an irrational fear of men on horseback. I look at all these fuckers like Masakado from NG: Black.

But seriously, this game is hard. I’ve been trying to co-op TS and Margit fights to try to get some XP to level up, but the host constantly dies by the time Margi is at a quarter health. And TS has some bullshit swipes that clip through the environment so he can still hit me.

All I’ll say is thank goodness that the game has fast travel unlocked from the start. Because I’d sure as shit be stuck in certain areas by now.
