How’s the HDR in the game? Too many games either require you to change settings and it still isn’t great, raised black levels compared to SDR, which in turn really ruin a dark moody place like a cave where there’s no light source. This completely took me out of AC Valhalla at the start because HDR was ruining the dark rooms.
@Doncabesa saying this game overtook DS3 for him in the OST department has me even more hype. Although I did like Sekiro OST, it lacked that sense of grandiose that came with the soulsborne games, so I was wondering how Elden Ring would do in that department and as someone who has DS3 up there as well in the OST front, I’m glad to hear Elden Ring might live up to it or even surpass it even.
The real question is if it will surpass Bloodborne’s OST, to be honest though I was not a big fan of DS3’s music (though it’s still pretty good in general) and I really liked Sekiro’s OST.
yeah surpassing Bloodborne is toughhh. I haven’t even played that yet from what I’ve heard of it is already fire.
I personally enjoyed DS3’s music a lot, like Dancer’s theme, Aldritch’s theme, Dragonslayer Armor theme are some of the best in the franchise and the DS3 version of Firelink Shrine is what I keep humming and singing all the time in the bathroom and kitchen lmfao. Sekiro had some exceptional themes like the Senpou Monks one and Owl’s theme but not enough memorable ones. It all melded into one another a bit more than I would have liked, but I see that it was directed to be that way to a degree.
Elden Ring’s tutorial dungeon is a different story. Called the Cave of Knowledge, this optional series of chambers introduces Elden Ring’s fundamental mechanics one by one. Starting with the use of Sites of Grace (similar to Souls’ Bonfires), it goes on to cover familiar things such as light/heavy attacks, weapon skills, and blocking, as well as new mechanics such as the Stakes of Marika checkpoint system, guard counters, and how to best use long grass and stealth to overcome your enemies. Each system is explained by a pop-up window that offers much much more transparent detail than FromSoftware has typically done in the past.
Don’t know if this was posted yet but thought it was cool. I’ll run though this before jumping into the big world. It’s an optional dungeon but it rewards you a new gesture for completing.
This is exactly what my friend just told me via Xbox party chat. That if a boss is giving you a hard time you can just go someplace else, do other things instead. This sounds great because undoubtedly we’ve all been there with previous Souls games that we got stuck at a boss fight and got frustrated or even gave up for a while. Of course the truly hardcore ones press on, but we aren’t all that brave, haha.
I have a sneaking suspicion that some of the people on twitter making a big thing out of performance issues on Elden Ring just might be some the same people outraged that Forbiden West scored sub 90 on Metacritic. If you check they’re tweet history
And I have an even more dubious suspicion that some of those folks haven’t played Elden Ring yet
