Let’s fucking gooooooooo!

But I also am a bit skeptical, because while I did enjoy 3, it wasn’t the greatness of the first two games and that studio is long gone too, sadly.

Reasonably hyped. These games are still good fun even today. The udpate for Darksiders II gave life to that game. I should finish it sometime.

I’m hyped for Darksiders 4 but it was announced a year ago at the THQ Showcase 2024. I don’t like that for whatever reason, Strife doesn’t seem to be getting his own adventure. War, Death and Fury all had theirs but Strife doesn’t get his own? I don’t get it.

Really hoping that this isn’t a co-op/multi-player focused game. Ugh.

Darksiders 2 was an uneven game with a lot of bloat and some dumb design decisions like the inclusion of diablo-like loot and big open (and most of the time empty) areas ΙΜΟ. I thought that Darksiders 3 was a much more focused experience with really good level design plus Fury was a much more interesting protagonist than Death.

That being said the first Darksiders is still my favorite game in the series, I replayed the remaster last year and the game still holds up very nicely. Genesis is also a great one even though it’s criminally underrated and underappreciated, didn’t expect to enjoy it as much as I did.

Can’t wait for Darksiders 4!

Darksiders 4 = 4 player-coop

I guess marketing thought they were geniuses.

I’m sure the game will be playable entirely solo, so that’s fine.

Yeah it’s a bit disappointing that we’ve passed a full year and this is all they show. A cinematic two years in a row, nah.

Isn’t the creator for this one the same as Remnant 2. If so, then they had their hands full with that.

It seems like Darksiders 4 is going to be a single player action adventure game but you can choose between any of the four characters. I don’t know if it’s on the fly or if you choose one to play through the entire game with.

These are entirely my concerns. 4 should’ve been Strife’s solo game. His adventures specifically had been teased so hard out of the four horsemen. And then 5 should’ve been the conclusion to the saga by following up on the ending scene of 1.

Also yeah, co-op fears. I’m getting Gotham Knights PTSD flashes. What really sucks about the online co-op games is they’re either Helldivers 2 level popularity or they’re dead on arrival. The single player games have more legs, and even if the game is playable offline entirely, a massive chunk of development needs to go to making a good co-op experience that may or may not even perform well. And then we’re left having waiting all this time for DS4 only to be denied both a Strife solo game and a completed game period. The amount of time between this teaser and the last teaser is also worrisome. It seems like the first trailer was a, “we decided to fund a Darksiders 4” and this trailer is, “We decided to make the devs skip Strife and do a live service PVE game to capitalize on the current market.” (I really hope the latter is just me doomsaying).

Didn’t see this, but that’s be much better (full single player). Still sad we didn’t get a Strife game like all the rest.

Agree completely.

Since I last posted, it seems like it’s going to be a 1-4 player game where you can either play solo or up to four players in co-op. Have to wait and see though. Would like to see Gunfire Games clarify all of this.

Strife not getting his own game is bullshit. The only reason I can think of would be due to him using guns as opposed to melee based weapons. Other than that, who the hell knows what the reason(s) is.

I remember when people were so HYPED after that initial teaser about how Strife would play. The articles were digging up all the Strife teases from the other games (Darksiders 2 & 3 were hyping my boy up more than the MCU teased Thanos). I remember the articles talking about how Strife might play like “Dante from devil may cry” and everyone being excited over that. Such a shame we aren’t getting the pay off.

My first assumption was time. It’s been 15 years since the original Darksiders launched. I think THQ and/or the studio is just getting anxious about paying off that cliffhanger. I mean, speaking of the MCU it’s really indicative of the times. I could go on a whole rant about Dr. Doom not getting a solo movie or much setup before the big Avengers crossover. But that is a tangent. Staying on topic, I do think it’s just the ticking clock. Which I don’t think SHOULD be scaring them this much. A good game is a good game and they should play out the saga as intended.

Other than that, my thoughts stray toward the much worse reasoning of THQ wanting to milk Darksiders with a live service co-op (which I don’t nearly know enough about the game’s plans or anything; that’s just my scary speculation).

Regardless of the reason, it’s a massive shame. The games expanding the world and lore of Darksiders is what’s really gotten me invested too!

Yeah, I don’t disagree with anything you said. The story is supposed to pick up where Darksiders 1 left off which should make things easier for Gunfire Games and it could be that it’s a “safer” move for Embracer Group and Gunfire Games.

I can’t see this game being a live service game at all because it’s all PvE as far as im aware. I always thought that they would keep Darksiders 4 as a single player game where you play as Strife and then do a spin off with all four characters in some kind of separate co-op live service game. Like a Helldivers 2 or something like that. Where it’s the four of them against the environment consisting of AI enemies.

Either way, I do hope that the game itself is good, does good and Gunfire Games has another win on their resume after Remnant 1 and 2.
