Court documents revealing details on Game Pass deals and Xbox Store % cut

New news, new thread.

Expect news articles from places “soonish”. Is legit though. Does this mean Xbox revenue cut will be following the PC and going to 88/12 split?

Pretty big stuff. I would assume a lot of developers would not want to miss the Xbox platform if they know they get 18% more revenue with every copy sold than on other console platforms.

Indies in particular.

Stalker 2 Is only three months exclusive: Is not a Great deal, imho

This is big! Even less excuses to skip Xbox as a platform now :stuck_out_tongue:

Hear that, Japanese devs? :innocent:

this is kinda big isn’t it

Contradiction between this and what Stalker dev said recently.

It isn’t exactly a contradiction, the deal specifies that for 3 months, the game can’t release on other consoles. What happens after the 3 months end is up to the developer.

Hopefully this will have impact on a lot of games that don’t come to Xbox normally. Big move.

My question would be - is their a Cloud clause tied into this deal?

The big point here is this move will also pressurize Sony into doing the same along with Apple.

A 12% cut will no doubt affect Xbox as a lot of the revenue comes from 3rd parties but Xbox is diverging from that model a bit with gamepass and MS will be able to afford the 3rd party loss, on the other hand if PS is forced to do the same then it will make them half as profitable given their reliance on 3rd party revenue and in turn their ability to do exclusivity deals.

MS knows exactly what it is doing here by siding with Epic as they don’t rely on app/game stores for revenue and they know their competitors do.

You don’t know how much it cost MS and what their budgets are so how can u say it’s not a good deal?

Could be big for Japanese games. Good news all around.

I’m sure a lot of Japanese Devs still wouldn’t care because to them Xbox is like a Nokia Flip phone compared to a Samsung.

This had to be a logical follow up. You can’t simply cut on PC and not on Xbox.

Interestingly, it is only the game sale price percentage that is cut - not every thing else like DLC, mtx sales.

I’m Just assuming what developers said about exclusivity: there are no plans for PS5. This document shows another thing. It’s not important to me After All

There is a proposal currently under Gaming Leadership Team consideration to adopt 88 / 12 as a public PC games revenue share for all games in exchange for the grant of streaming rights to Microsoft

The streaming rights clause would mean developers have to ensure games are available on xCloud for this improved revenue cut.

Very interesting.

That seems like a smart move TBH both parties would “win” from such a proposal.

Just from a laypersons perspective that is I do not know how much “streaming rights” could be worth versus an extra 18%. But on the face it seems to be beneficial for all parties.

Are there any more doubts as to how all in Microsoft is on streaming and Game Pass? This is potentially a smart move in order to ensure games are on Xcloud.

Another 4D CHESS move.

I guess xCloud is definitely going beyond Gamepass at some point.

I understand what they’re saying, and I feel 3 months is such a short term of exclusivity. I think they would have been better off just launching the game on gamepass because most of the plays would most likely be on gamepass rather than buying the game in it’s first 3 months
