CoD on Switch. How will Xbox do that?

Deal is done. Cheers all over the place. Salt in the corner. And Gamepass backlog will hit new heights.

Now let’s talk about the deals MS made to get the mega deal to the finish line.

There are several cloud deals with Ubisoft’s being the biggest one.

But the deal with Nintendo is even more bigger then anything else MS signed here.

CoD on Switch.

Lots of questions… Which Hardware it will launch. What parity would be there? How will they achieve the game running on the hardware. Biggest of all… Which studio will port it to the Switch?

So what are your thoughts?

SEGA and Square makes lots of Nintendo games. The talent is there. I am thinking about next acquisition.

Xbox may become the biggest game publisher across each of the three console gaming platform in the future.

Same way they did it on Phones. The Graphics will be really, really bad. See MK1.

But which studio? And Xbox can’t afford the game look that bad on the console. They would need some exceptional talent to do it.

Same way they did Doom Eternal on Switch.

For COD they won’t have to bother with Switch, it will be Switch 2.

The current Switch will not get any new CoDs. There’s no point when new hardware is next year, which should run CoD no problem. Activision is probably on the top priority list for receiving devkits, if they don’t already have them.

Though if I was MS I’d toss a port of Black Ops 2 Complete (all DLC) on the current Switch. Can even be full price. Believe me it’d sell a couple million easy lol.

It likely won’t come to switch at all, Switch 2 is next year so it will come to that

If it is on OG switch it will be an extremely stripped down port

In terms of parity it will get the same modes but performance it will be stripped down, whether that’s Switch or Switch 2

As for who does the port who knows, there’s endless companies out there these days porting things or helping other studios with their titles

I don’t think it will be as bad as MK1 but it will look bad, that’s inevitable when your hardware is this bad

It’s either an extremely stripped down port or it’s nothing at all, if Nintendo or their fans don’t like it well, too bad, stop releasing shit hardware

The lowest bidder. Certainly none of the big three. It’ll be farmed out.

Well theres a contract so it must release on “Nintendo”. No-one said it would look the same.

Since CoD games are based off a port from “id Tech 3” engine, it’s perhaps educational to look at how Doom Eternal using “id Tech 7” engine was ported to the Nintendo Switch.

The work was done by studio “Panic Button”. They would be an excellent studio to tap for CoD assistance.

Here’s the written technical article and some videos:

Miraculously, Doom Eternal outperforms all prior id Tech ports to Switch. The target frame-rate is, of course, reduced to 30 frames per second, as expected for the hardware, but unlike prior releases, Doom Eternal maintains this frame-rate most of the time. I played through around 50 per cent of the entire game content and found only one area with any noticeable drops to the target frame-rate - which is a huge improvement over prior ports. Mobile mode isn’t quite as solid overall, but still holds up really well - the main compromise being letterboxed, locked 20fps cutscenes. Regardless, getting Doom Eternal to work at all is a minor miracle and to see it play out on a handheld with a ridiculously low power budget is truly remarkable.

The “Switch can’t run COD” was one of most disingenuous arguments against the merger. Everyone feigned ignorance that “Nintendo Consoles” would be their future console(s). Heck with a guarantee from MS to bring COD to Nintendo, it actually gives Nintendo a reason for a more powerful console if they were on the fence about it.

Panic button could be a good choice. They also optimised the Forza Horizon 4 for the Xbox series consoles.

Their problem now but I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t a bit concerned, I don’t want Xbox versions to suffer because of it, I also think Microsoft should’ve waited before making this deal as it’s obvious they didn’t need it to get the merger approved but it’s done, hopefully the next Nintendo console will be at least close to the Series S.

10 year deal starts in 2024 and what releases in November 2024 - that’s right, the Super Switch Entertainment System. Aka Switch 2.

Switch 2 will probably be between Xbox One X and Xbox Series S which will be more than enough power for a native version of Call of Duty.

I think it was always part of Activision’s plan to release it on Switch 2.

COD was made running on the Wii and it probably runs on PC with lower power than the ps4.

By cutting that shit down like a zack snyder theatrical cut.

COD is usually hyper linear so it is ‘just’ a matter of downgrading visuals/enemy density. If they can get witcher to run on the switch, you can get an ugly version of cod to run on it. Besides, switch 2 will be out soon.

Frankly, thewy should buy themselves some time by creating compilations.

Modern warfare trilogy. WW2 compilation. Black ops compilation. Future war compilatiion etc. There is a huge backlog of games that never came to nintendo. Start by releasing a new compilation of those on switch each year, and make xbox and ps5 ports as well. Easy money.

If I were MS I would support Switch 2 with as much as ABK content as possible honestly. The next Ninty console is gold mine in the making and as @saintsflow20 said, there’s also a lot of back catalogue that will do great numbers there
