What worked for me was, the only thing that worked:
On the back of the controller there’s a slider. Left is for Bluetooth and right is for Xbox. But for now put this in the middle.
Start up the force pairing tool in Windows.
Put the dongle(USB stick connector thing) into a PC. Windows recognizes it. If not, try connecting a USb hub to PC and connect the dongle to that. It’s important that Windows recognizes it but also the force pairing tool should detect the dongle.
Connect USB C cable to the controller, DON’T connect to PC yet.
Hold down D-pad up+left simultaneously.
While holding the D-pad down like that, connect the USB cable from controller into PC.
Then click on “Bind” in the tool
Controller should be detected, everything should pass. Disconnect controller and put the slider to the right.
Oh and if you need the pairing tool. Let me know. I tried to find a good link to it but its dead. I do have the tool within a zip file on my phone, so I can upload it to some free file transfer site.
Yeah it seems that for some people this is what’s needed , while for others it’s plug and play. I assume it has to do with firmware. Perhaps the ones you and me got had older firmware and those that don’t have this problem got dongles with newer firmware installed.
After work today I will upload it for you, no problem. Just need to find a good free upload site.
