Good article!
Incredibly frustrating situation and I wouldn’t have cared anymore if I had a PS5 as well, but I don’t. I was so exited when this game confirmed for Xbox and so disappointed about the delay news. It’s four months or more since release and I genuinely had expected a actual release date for Xbox now. But now, here we are. With these words about years of optimization, excuse me?
So this studio wasn’t aware of the specs of S before they confirmed the Xbox version? I’ve never been against the existence of the S, as long as it wouldn’t keep XSX “down” so to speak, but with this title we are in such a situation now and I hate it.
Yeah indeed, wtf is it? Can we indeed still welcome it for our console or is it years away? Sigh. If the latter they can buzz off.
If the CEO was a paid PlayStation agent he couldn’t be doing a better job of creating FUD around Xbox and particularly the Series S - new media storms every time he opens his big mouth.
Having seen other things he’s said though, it wouldn’t surprise me if he’s just ass covering using console warriors to help and to cover up a priority deal with Sony.
In other instances Xbox has always reached out to help - in this case they’ve come out fighting which makes me think they know something otherwise might risk being sued for defamation and burning bridges would potentially mean the game never reaching Xbox.
Hopefully this latest tantrum is just to stir up some Sony fanboys to buy more of his game, and Xbox will be gritting their teeth and working with the idiot on behalf of Xbox fans who still want this crap.
Personally, him and his game can go swivel, I just wish he’d shut the fuck up
Outside of China, this game didn’t have anywhere near the impact that some people like to believe. It was mostly a local phenomenon.
And “years” to optimise for Series S? Really?
Fundamentally disagree. Black Myth is a popular game to only those in China or those, like us, who are plugged in. It is no where near as big a game as the discourse makes it out to be.
As far as we know, only 2 games so far have had issues with Series S: BG3 and Wukong.
BG3 had issues with local coop, a feature barely anyone uses but fine, memory was definitely a problem in that scenario due to 2 people being able to be in 2 different locations at the same time, thus the 10GB RAM being a problem.
What is this game’s issue though? It doesn’t look like it pushes any boundaries, so why can’t this specific developer do what all others have been able to achieve?
Honestly, skill issue.
Hopefully we get some clarity on this very soon, because this whole years of optimization bullshit is just ridiculous. They didn’t know about the RAM in the S beforehand? Come in now.
The article talks about Xbox helping out, and it sure sounded like that what was happening last year when someone from Xbox talked about it. But here we are. So tiresome.
At this point? Wuchang is more than likely looking to stir things up for Wukong as that game been marketed by Xbox and i can see it do numbers on the ecosystem and more on PC and other platforms, more so than Wukong.
In fact, my bet is Wuchang is gonna be a nominne for 2025’s game of the year alongside Expetidion 33. Both day one on gamepass games
Hi Staffy, to my knowledge no one has stated that it would take several years of optimization, the studio’s statement highlights their difficulty in being fast and efficient due to the fact that they do not have several years of experience in optimization.
Yeah, it seems that’s the case but it really doesn’t help that in terms of clarity we still have no idea where they are at with the game development. It released August 29 but was (apparently still is) anything but optimal on PS5 and PC, so any real work on Xbox versions probably have only recently begun. But who knows really.
There’s plenty to play, so that’s not an easy but this whole thing just sucks, at least give us something on when it could finally drop.
Just thought I’d add this to the speculation pile based on what we’ve seen from the PC gaming sector, Restrictive Licenses:
Historically in the PC realm, when a major ISV such as Nvidia or AMD offer their assistance to game developers, it can come in the form of restrictive licenses. The tech gurus come in to help out or to implement a unique feature with the caveat that it is only available or usable for their graphic cards.
Given this known behavior, it is not beyond reason that Sony could have offered to assist the developers of BM:W, with the restriction that their code not be utilized for console competitors. Technically it’s not a money hat, while at the same time it places restrictions on when or what can be released on other platforms.
Game Science won’t realize the mistake until much latter down the line, but i feel like stuff like Wuchang Fallen Feather is gonna bite them hard once it release on all platforms and gains a lot more profits for it compared to what Wukung did. Like i feel like that is going to happen.
It already did quite well, didn’t it? So had they released for Xbox day and date too it would have been even better.
The most annoying thing of all this is that we have no idea where they are at when it comes to development for the Xbox version. But I’m sure if it had been close to release the guy would have said so, so I don’t think it’s looking too great.
Its sold insanely well but yea, the vast majority of its sales are from China which shouldn’t be surprising, felt like the game became completely irrelevant over here after its first week
57th most played game of 2024 on PlayStation. It would probably struggle to crack the top 100 on Xbox, due to Game Pass. (Unless it’s on Game Pass, of course.)
The impact of the delay isn’t all that dramatic, outside of a certain bubble.
