I question that idea very much. I think it is most over-rated game of 2024 by a large margin.

Which is all you need to play Balatro, just change the point system for a number of hands system: play 2 poker hands first round, keep increasing it per round, play a soevific jand several times for boss blind.
How would you do booster packs? Change your cards to wilds? Make glass cards? Foils? etc? You’d need about 100 or so decks and it just wouldn’t work. If we are being serious.
Unicorn Overlord was objectively better. Balatro was fine. It is a good game. It’s a novel game. I like it. No offense (really), but I sincerely find game media falling over it more about the herd and less about it being a really fun card game.
weird to compare a deckbuilding roguelike to an rpg auto-battler. I gave it a 10 before talking to anyone else about it, because I enjoyed it so much. There’s no “herd” going on there as far as I’m concerned.

That’s not how anything in real life works. You not liking a game doesn’t mean a conspiracy was formed to try and trick you into it.
Those are are just modifiers, the game itself is making poker hands. So if instead of points/chips being the objective to win, it would be number of poker hands without repeating.
But if we do want to use modifiers, we write down the jokers and card effects on paper and put them in a bowl. That we pick one from at random.
