Developer Nyctophile Studios has announced that their upcoming first-person horror title ‘Death Relives’ is planned for launch on PC via Steam, PlayStation, and Xbox consoles towards the end of Q1 2024.
Per the press release:
Death Relives takes inspiration from Aztec mythology, along with real historical events from the 16th century. The game immerses players into a nightmarish world where the players are trying to survive from long-forgotten gods. While struggling with Xipe Totec, the god of death, life, rebirth, agriculture, vegetation, and deadly warfare in Aztec mythology, players will also find themselves in real historical places, such as the ship that Hernán Cortés traveled to the land of Aztecs with. The dark and eerie atmosphere of Death Relieves also hides other entities lurking in the shadows, which will be revealed in the rich storyline while Adrian, our protagonist, progresses through the game.
Death Relives resurrects the ancient Aztec horrors, which require special items to deal with. The unique combat and stealth mechanics of the game require using these items effectively during the journey. However, while fighting against the ancient gods of the Aztecs, killing and sending their souls to the Mictlan, the underworld of Aztec mythology, won’t be enough.
Death Relives will be available with four difficulty settings along with options to turn off jumpscares for the players who want to focus on the story more. The game also offers players an option to change the sound of the death whistle with another instrument after some of the testers stated that they felt unusual extreme unease while playing the game. The game can be added to the wishlist on Steam and PlayStation.
As a horror fan myself, I’m really excited about the release of the Death Relives. We worked tirelessly to create a game that captivates horror fans, and the feedback we got from the audience is priceless. While working on my first game, I focused on creating a unique atmosphere for the players, which required working with a team from Mexico for voiceovers of Xipe Totec in the native Nahuatl language and trying to find a death whistle online. In a few months, we will be completely ready to share this amazing experience with our players around the globe.
