Too many headwinds in February between AC:Shadows, MH:W, KCD2, and not to mention the hate brigade going on towards the game would make for some ugly CCU-watching threads.
If you launch late on Steam you avoid all of that AND you can still sell through on Xbox App and BattleNet, two stores PC gamers are more than used to. Yes you’ll have lower CCU on Steam Release (because people will have bought/played it elsewhere) but that won’t matter because, well, you’ve already sold to everyone who isn’t Steam-or-nothing on PC.
Personally, I believe that Microsoft should have moved up Avowed’s release date to January 28th (with Early Access being January 23rd/24th). Three weeks earlier which game itself wise, I don’t think that it would change much/if anything but competitively, would be in a far better spot because with Assassin’s Creed Shadows, Like a Dragon: Pirate Yakuza, Monster Hunter Wilds and Kingdom Come 2 all releasing around it, it’s going to get overshadowed.
Related side note - February is fucking stacked!! Jeez!!
Spot on. I think the game should be moved forward it looks almost done and January is a dire month for game releases and maybe a time people have their Christmas money off Santa burning a hole in their pocket
The game is up with 5 day early access for pre-orders on the expensive edition/upgrade. Its time isn’t changing and their games, outside of avoiding gta 6, will come out with a focus on not being too close to each other. They have a day one game at the end of January, mid-Feb, end of March already. South of Midnight is most likely April, GP itself is how they will set things moving forward.
Agreed. Jesse makes a good point in regards to Microsoft having a game day one on Game Pass Ultimate for January/February/March but moving Avowed to late January and going against Sniper Elite would be a far better decision in my opinion because they’re two very different types of games where as in February, the other four games are all RPG’s.
We’ll see what happens. I’m hoping Avowed not only gets the player engagement via Game Pass but I hope it sells very well on Steam and BattleNet because I want it to succeed. I don’t want it to just come and go.
The first game just hit the 8m sold mark earlier this month but looking at KCD 2, I believe it’s going to be a huge breakout game for Warhorse and finally give Embracer Group a win which they haven’t had in a while. Even im interested in it despite not caring about it because the gameplay/combat is said to be and looks to be very realistic which is the aspect that appeals to most but not me. lol
The first game was kinda unknown when it released (it still did almost 100k CCU on steam tho), but it sold well over the years, the studio behind it has grown a lot going from just like 10 developers a bit over 10 years ago to over 250 now.
KCD 2 is one of the most wishlisted games, and if the studio can fix all day 1 problems the first game had (lots of bugs and performance issues), i expect the game to be one of the best sellers from 2025 yes, specially on Steam.
If Avowed is great and received well by players post launch no one will remember the latest fabricated scandal, the whole thing started when someone posted a screenshot with pronouns in the game, I still don’t understand why this seems to be such a big deal for so many weirdos, and yeah I call them weirdos because I’ve seen grown ass men not even with anonymous accounts on Facebook complaining about this non issue, you’d think pronouns would be extra welcomed in an RPG of all genres.
The other comments by Hansen I can agree were unnecessary, you can be inclusive without wording it the way that he did imo but of course it is also being taken out context by some people.
What will happen with the game at launch probably is the following: It’s great, does good numbers and good Steam CCU numbers and a certain portion of these weirdos will pretend it was a failure because it didn’t reach BG3 like numbers on Steam, I remember DAV getting this treatment and I even remember BG3 being attacked by the same weirdos I mentioned until it launched, scored a 95+ and did record sales so at that point they couldn’t pretend to actually give a shit about the “woke” stuff and stfu and played the game like everybody else.
And now we have Elon Musk emboldening these people which will just increase the attacks western devs and their games are getting, it’s insane…
