If they’re teasing it already, this device could be close. I do wonder if they launch close to the Switch 2 or avoid it by going later?
It’s just a PC handheld with a more console-like feel, supposedly. So different audiences.
I hope it’s not just the rog ally with Xbox branding. I’m looking into getting one of these PC handhelds and the MSI claw 8 is the most powerful performance wise right now. I’ll buy the Xbox one if it’s a competitor to that and not just the z1 extreme or x with Xbox buttons.
Unless the Switch 2 is more like a PC handheld made by the most talented manufacturer/developer in the business. Then what?
Gamers are all one audience.
Well yes, but the Switch 2 being so highly anticipated means that there will be comparisons done by most of the people that cover software and hardware.
Even more so now that Xbox is more involved with it.
One of the rumors was that Xbox will be working with multiple manufacturers for the Windows Handheld, so there may be an MSI one later.
Nintendo has zero interest in anything PC, what are your talking about? Their hardware is also thoroughly mediocre, by design
Though the form factor is the same, I think you’re going to see the exact same differences in audience like you have with console gaming versus PC gaming.
Just like console vs PCs, there’s the price difference and then there’s the capability difference. I see it bringing in very different audiences. A lot of parents will opt for the Switch for their kids for games like Fortnite over the more expensive PC handheld counterparts.
Which brings up another interesting discussion but it too far a tangent for this topic but it is interesting that kids growing up now would rather a PC versus a console for their fixed screen gaming experience but would likely to prefer a Switch over a PC handheld for their portable gaming experience.
Nintendo is undoubtedly a talented software maker and I would credit them for being talented in creating hit hardware, but I think so much of that has to do with creating hardware that is so much not like a PC. They refused to engage in the hardware race, were slow to adopt features like online gaming, and are slow to adopt OS level features like game broadcasting onto Twitch, Discord, etc. Very bare bones in terms of capability. Which is perfectly fine. It doesn’t need any of that to outsell all other dedicated gaming devices.
Maybe. But with the two controllers as mice if the machine can play games like Total War, TBS with more mouse control AND play every Nintendo game - we may see a shift. They can ports 1000s of games over if it runs like a PS4. Even though some people might not think it goes after the pc market (lol) the fact is some of the earliest PC to console ports go to Nintendo. Pizza Tower etc. 24 hours we will know more. should be fun
ps - I couldnt imagine being a pc main and not owning a $300 switch. I doubt most people with $3000 rigs didnt spring for the handheld. why not. it is cheap. everyone has one.
Its going to get compared to Switch 2 if it runs a lot of the same games and has a console like UI. Price wise i wonder how similar its going to be. I see Asus ROG ally at Sams Club for $479 and Switch 2 just got announced for $450. I think anything under $600 for Asus Xbox would be a major win. $550 is a great deal for being able to play all the games and getting all the free games from Epic and Amazon. And i presume this Xbox Asus will be able to run more games at 60fps then Switch 2. Also dont have to pay for online play. If this thing is $500 then good lord its a helluva deal.
I don’t care if it has a tiny Xbox logo that is considered new, SAVE ME NOW!!!
I was going to pronounce this DOA but now I’m not so sure. Xbox’s attitude towards backwards compatibility and buy it once; play it everywhere may raise this ship yet.
MS’s greatest problem now is just educating the masses as to what they are capable of. They are awful at that.
