Great news for me. I was going back and forth between Shadows and Avowed on which game I was going to play first but since the decision has been made for me, it will be Avowed that gets played first.

Hard to see where ubi goes from here. I think they’d like to get a deal like bungie got, where they retain some independence, but idk how viable that is.
Bungie’s independence:
Tbf they had plenty of leash till they flopped as hard as possible
One of my most anticipated games of this year, I’m sad to see the wait get even longer. But it will be worth it if the game is as polished at release as Star Wars Outlaws is now compared to its release state.
Ubisofts downfall began when they cancelled the next Rayman game
Personally, I don’t believe that Ubisoft will end up selling to anyone unless the offer is amazing which I don’t see happening. Valhalla sold over 20m copies in 4 years on 5 platforms. Shadows is on 3 platforms and I believe that it will sell over 10m copies in 2025 alone because it’s the first major AC title since Valhalla and the delays will only increase the demand for it because everyone knows that Ubisoft needs to make sure that Shadows is 100% ready for launch.
What Ubisoft really needs to do is to stop chasing all of these horrible live service games looking for their Fortnite when it hasn’t worked for them and most likely, isn’t going to. Ubisoft needs to get back to basics. AC, Far Cry, Ghost Recon, Splinter Cell, The Division, etc. Ubisoft can easily be fine and profitable but they need to get out of their own way first.
I like the way you phrased it. Feels like we see this over and over and over again. Do what you’re good at, what you’re known for, what your fans want → profit. Chase COD and Fortnite → get owned. Why does this seem so difficult for game publishers to grasp.
Perfect timing x.com
Gives me some time to finish Valhalla and play a good amount of Avowed before it comes out, I actually really want this at launch, I think it looks great from what I’ve seen and I’m intrigued by a AC game in a Japanese setting.
I don’t know. They all keep trying to chase Fortnite. Hell, I can’t wait to see publishers chase Marvel Rivals because from what I have read and seen, they’re nailing everything thus far and looks like it will be the next massive yearly live service game.
As for Ubisoft, I love Assassin’s Creed but I want it to be more Origins than Valhalla. I love Black Flag as it’s my favorite but that’s also the first AC game I ever played and completed. I want Ghost Recon (I know most will disagree) to be more Wildlands than Breakpoint which I didn’t like at all. Plus, very few games attack the drug cartel story line and angles. I want Far Cry to be more like 3/4 than 5/6/New Dawn. I want The Division 3 to be just what 1 and 2 were. Just improve some aspects, give me a new story, new location, different side activities but make it like the first game. I don’t want to play through it twice to beat it and I didn’t like in 2 that you clear out an area the second playthrough and in time, there’s enemies there again. For Splinter Cell, my favorite is Conviction. The interrogations were awesome, love how they put all the objectives in the game world on buildings and stuff. Give me that type of fast paced campaign but then do an MP mode that’s Spies vs Mercs since that seems to be the best and more popular MP mode in Splinter Cell. The old school stealth I just don’t think flies anymore because people will get bored and move on quickly.
While I think Watch Dogs is dead, give me a sequel to the first game with Aiden Pearce. Let me be the vigilante. It was the most fun and enjoyable of the three games by far. Story and characters were pretty good, characters more than the story.
Immortals Fenys Rising, hate that the sequel was cancelled. Love that game. Bring back Rayman using that engine that was used with Child of Light. It may be the same engine. I don’t know. Rayman isn’t for me but it’s great 2D platformers and can’t imagine them costing much to make. Hell, take a Game Pass/PS Plus day one bag from both platforms if need be.
Right now, im hyped for Shadows because it looks really good, way better combat than Valhalla which is only ahead of Unity and Liberation HD for me out of the 8 AC games that I have completed. With that said, im not happy they eliminated the Eagle and brought back that horrible eagle vision where you see through walls. I have hated and despised this mechanic since Arkham Asylum. It’s so stupid to me. And no free climbing which pisses me off more than the vision shit. I can’t stand these massive open world games where I gotta look for hooks or grapple points or worse, go around the mountain to get to where I want/need/have to go. It’s a video game. I will sacrifice realism easily if you let me climb pretty much everything like Origins/Odyssey/Valhalla.
Prince of Persia is another. This in my opinion should be the old school AC type games. Maybe smaller open ended areas as opposed to open world or linear but I think it would work. Do a little stealth, let me blend in here and there, AC IV Black Flag counter style combat. Can’t have both AC and POP be exactly the same so this is just a thought.
Biggest disappointment for me from Ubi was Skull and Bones. Seriously, I can’t even imagine how they could fuck up this game. They have the blueprint first of all and second, that first trailer which was realistic and looked awesome, I don’t understand why they would turn it into a live service attempt.
Sorry for the long post and semi-rant but Ubisoft is my favorite company and they were (mostly) awesome for me last generation on PS4/XBO but this generation, out of the 5 games I played and completed from them, only Immortals hit my 9 rating scale overall. Three others were an 8 and one was a 7. Haven’t played Outlaws yet but will most likely start it next week. Want to wrap up Visions of Mana tomorrow first.
In my head, I already have Shadows as being better for me than Valhalla but not coming close to Black Flag/Origins/Odyssey/Rogue which are the 9+ and top 4 AC games for me. But we’ll see.
Origins was awesome, Valhalla was good. I love that they’re bringing the grappling hook traversal for Naoe, as I really enjoyed the freedom of movement that Evie had with her version of that.
Oddly enough, Black Flag was also my first AC and I didn’t care for it, wasn’t able to handle the mission to follow someone. I should go back and try it again.
Also I think Wildlands was immensely more popular than Breakpoint so doubt many would disagree with that.
I do like the grapple hook for Naoe in Shadows. I was originally going to play as Yasuke but since the character is so limited in what you can do gameplay wise, I’ll be playing with Naoe instead. I agree with the freedom you get with that like in Syndicate which I enjoyed for the most part.
The tailing missions in Black Flag were bad but even worse, were the eavesdropping missions where you have to stay in the green circle radius so you can hear the conversation. When I replayed Black Flag, I remember staying out of that green circle, taking out all the enemies and then going into it so I could just follow/stay close to the conversation without having to fight anyone while following.
As for Ghost Recon, I meant that majority would probably prefer the old school GR games over Wildlands where as I want Wildlands 2. Hehe.
Ah, I didn’t make it to the eavesdropping… I did recently play AC 3 Remastered and it had those, but I made it through, so hopefully I can handle in Black Flag now.
And gotcha on Ghost Recon. I tried playing one of the originals recently and just couldn’t, but I’d be with you on something like Wildlands again. The big one I miss from my PC days was Rainbow Six and Rogue Spear… I loved the tactical command and planning aspects of those and then dealing with the situation. Vegas was fine but I really enjoyed the original concept which was basically true to the book.
There aren’t that many of those missions in Black Flag and while they’re worse than the tailing missions in my opinion, the rest of the game is so damn great that it’s minor when all is said and done. Really hoping the Black Flag remake launches later this year and that Ubisoft didn’t screw it up.
I never played any Ghost Recon game before Wildlands which I loved but dropped Breakpoint after a few hours as I didn’t like the Division treatment it got gameplay wise and even when they added an option to eliminate all that stuff, I still wasn’t into it.
Looking forward to this a shame about the delay.
