What exactly is “market trends” about Prey or Deahtloop? What are you saying?! Didn’t you say Dishonored was their best selling game, so directly making things less like that is actually more risk and less “safe” on their part?? Redfall might have been inspired to be more mass market but we haven’t even played that to say.

Developers not making what you prefer doesn’t mean they’re not making what they want. It’s just
unhealthy to think like that, especially when they still make great games.

Redfall has likely nothing to do with this imho. It was greenlit back when Zenimax was desperate for the studio to land something financially successful. And that quote doesn’t speak to the point I made about their games never being linear design-wise.

Linear would be something akin to older Halo games or Uncharted, et al. Sandbox mechanic-driven games like Arkane’s bread and butter aren’t really those types of games and aren’t linear in that sense. She just is referring story progression being linear, but the term linear normally refers to something different.

I expect each team to lean into the games it is finding success in. For Lyon, stuff similar to Deathloop makes sense as it has been a breakout hit for them critically speaking. For Harvey Smith and the Austin team, I bet after Redfall they go back to their bread and butter design-wise. I actually think Eidos Montreal might take another look at Deus Ex in the future too now that they have new ownership.

I agree, Dishonored isn’t exactly linear, but more structured and predefined (story, objectives) missions each their own immersive sim sandbox.

The industry needs more immersive sims. I wish gamers bought the damn things tho.

As long as its not full blown Ubisoft open world I’m good.

Do you mean the “Just make good games and they’ll sell” Gamers

Immersive sims aren’t really supposed to be very linear
Prey wasn’t linear(and neither is Redfall). Pretty sure they just mean they won’t be making “mission-based” games anymore.

Well, they are making Shadowrun so why would we want linear

Hahaha. Not for me bud. Just not my type of game.

I really enjoy Prey but I also hate running out of ammo all the time and feeling weak lol

I will play whatever Arkane wants to make.

Redfall looks like it’ll be Arkanes best game ever, so my hype levels are off the chart. Can’t wait for this game.
