Arkane is moving away from linear games. Do you like this?

Correct me if I am wrong, but this will not be a typical GAAS game. they are following their typical cadence of a base game with planned DLC.

They never did linear games

Yep, thatā€™s what Harvey Smith said in the latest IGN interview.

That would a nightmare scenario for me as Arkane fan, sheeeeeeesh

And I refuse to believe this will be their future. Letā€™s wait and see how Redfall turns out and the next game by Deathloop team.

Haha, yeah I thought I could trigger you a bit with that.

Dishonored was fairly linear but a lot of choice within

Thatā€™s what Iā€™m saying. All their games have tons of paths and options. Dishonored, Prey, and Deathloop all have a complete play however you want style. They arenā€™t linear. Games like uncharted are linear.

The only released UE5 game you have to go by is Fortnite. Itā€™s far better than all UE5 released games. I donā€™t know what people expect to be any different.

There is huge difference between tiny miniscule tech demos and genuine games that are beyond the 5 minutes of perfectly currated demo experiences.

The article is not saying ā€œwe want to make Assassinā€™s Creed instead of Unchartedā€, itā€™s saying the Deathloop creator wants to continue to make interestingly-structured games like Mooncrash & Deathloop. While I was lukewarm on Deathloop, I like what the guy is saying. It would be disappointing if a Dishonored 3 came out and there wasnā€™t anything innovative about it.

Itā€™s a good article with some interesting commentary on game design.

I havenā€™t played Deathloop yet but I trust Arkaneā€™s design and storytelling abilities so Iā€™m good with whatever they want to do.

Folks asking for Dishonored 3 for the next 10 years is going to get really old.

Iā€™m asking for Arx Faralis 2 for like 15 years. :sob:

Not sure this is the right read. The interview is about Arkane Lyon, not Arkane in general. They donā€™t ever seem to really distinguish between the two studios. I also wouldnā€™t call Dishonored ā€˜linearā€™.

Arkane as two seperate studios still follow the same design philosophies. Every single game builds upon the last game, which is why Redfall is clearly the most open yet.

Iā€™m gonna keep asking, begging, offerings insane amounts of money to Arkane for them to make a Prey sequel. That ending, and they just do us like that. Ice-cold.

Kidding, but I will always keep hoping for it. Never say never, after all Shenmue 3 became a reality too.

Dishonored is great. Prey is said to be great and Deathloop appears to be great based on reviews so as long as Redfall is great and I can fully play and enjoy it solo, I will be happy.

Still hoping for Dishonored 3 at some point this generation.

Let them create what they want because they have an outstanding resume where we should trust whichever direction they want to go.

Prey is said to be great? You immediately quit whatever youā€™re doing and install and play that game. It might be my favorite Arkane game, even though Dishonored 1 and 2 are excellent too.

Prey is the best Arkane game, period. Prey is the true and only GOTY of 2017, and it was a hell of a year.

I am always fine with whatever the devs are doing or want to do. I might not like it, but the devs are making their dream games and not me.

For damn sure!

Iā€™m thinking of going for a second playthrough, itā€™s so worth it. I loved those jump scares tol, haha. But the environmental storytelling was great too, the exploration, the atmosphere, story, manā€¦so great.
