An analysis of FF7R and Xbox [warning, long OP!]

It is amazing that Xbox did all the leverage to their games, from Outriders to Marvel’s Avengers to Guardians of the Galaxy. So who’s really helping who.

70 dollars and 80 euros. SE are greedy fuckers. You let steam users wait 6 months…for what?? 70 dollars for a shoddy port

The Starfield timed-exclusive money went to locking down FF7R for some unknown number of years.

Yeah, I feel the same, but it’s a double edged sword because SE will use the poor sales to turn around and say that JRPGs don’t sell on xbox so they’ll make more sony exclusives, it sucks, but hopefully atleast MS can offer them some money for them to be on gamepass so atleast they’re not a total loss. I will never buy a Square Enix game ever again for how badly they have screwed over xbox users.

At this point I doubt it ever comes to xbox.

I think it’s coming but it’s going to happen so long after the initial PS4 release that nobody will give a damn. Honestly feels like most Xbox gamers reached that point on Thursday. They’ll probably announce the Xbox version of Remake after Rebirth has been out for 6 months.

Yeah I hate the hypocrisy. After Microsoft bought Bethesda the gaming media couldn’t stop talking if Starfield was exclusive. It couldn’t be possible because Microsoft needed to get its money back and PlayStation gamers need it. The media always goes and support Sony yet I hardly see any PlayStation executives going around and doing interviews like Xbox executives do. Xbox will be fine. They need to buy a Japanese publisher next.

I dont see any articles whatsoever talking about why ff7 isnt on xbox yet. Searched on google ff7 remake xbox. Nothing. Just speculaiton articles from a few days ago from that leak and ones that talk about crisis core coming to xbox.

Now if you type in starfield ps5…jesus theres an article right there from gamesradar and theyre still fucking asking todd and pete about exclusivity or reassur8ng people its not coming.

And thats not including when ms bought bethesda…the exclusivity rumours were going wild…i listened to a lot of site podcasts and read articles they were mostly in the “ms should make them multiplat for good of gamers”

In my opinion, it’s just Square Enix asking Microsoft too much to put the game on Gamepass.

The “PS4 exclusive” badge is known to have popped up on the PlayStation site, just like Persona5. Gold Persona5 was released on Xbox and directly on Gamepass.

What interest does Xbox have if a game released 2 years ago is not released directly on Gamepass? For me in any case it has no interest, just see how the game is doing on PC, I don’t even know if it was once at the top of sales in a week.

And also, FF7R2 should not make you forget that KOF15, Street Fighter 6, Wolong will be day one on Xbox, which was not the case for KOF14, SF5 & NIOH

They main problem is that again they will have to dance around exclusivity. Imagine them getting Capcom and the discussions regarding if RE or DMC or other game exclusivity will be insufferable. Especially with Playstation community entitlement to the japanese content.

Think we just need to forget about it. Its ok for Sony to get some wins. On average they’ve lost far, far more since the Bethesda manouvre and Actiblizzion gambit. Phil just needs to make a move on Sega or Capcom. Show em how it feels.

I just wish square can be upfront and say it’s never coming to Xbox so we can end this discussion. However final fantasy brand is taking a hit by taking these Sony deals.

I don’t know why out of all the timed exclusive moneyhats, this was has bugged me the most. I think after so long and with the rumours of it coming to Steam, for the first time i was almost expecting the Xbox port to be announced and when it wasn’t, i was actually shocked. It’s annoying and as many have pointed out, why can’t Square just say if it’s coming to the Xbox or not…then again maybe Square just aren’t being asked that question by so called journalists. You just can’t help but tell how different the energy is between this and say Tomb Raider - all Xbox execs got grilled over that but with FF7 there’s almost an attitude of “oh well, time exclusives happen…”

There are still Xbox focused websites and journalists out there though, it would be nice if they asked them about FF7, maybe during the media push for Crisis Core - “You’re bringing the prequel to FF7 to the Xbox but not FF7 itself or its remake sequel. Why do you expect Xbox players to rush out and buy Crisis Core when they know the rest of the series won’t be coming to the console?”. I can’t see it happening but that’s a question i would love to see asked!

It’s because it’s like instead of your partner just breaking up with you, they just start ignoring your calls and you are left wondering wtf is going on lol

Don’t worry guys. Xbox fans will play the complete edition in one glorious swoop on next gen. It’s like binge watching a show instead of waiting every week for the next episode.

True and for mych cheaper. 210 bucks it will cost for 3 games at launch. For 1 remake. Crazy.

Miles Dompier said it best on the Xbox Two podcast this weekend. Square Enix will say, “We have nothing to announce at this time.”

I surmise we won’t see/hear anything about FF7R on Xbox until well after SH2/ThePersonas release and everyone can see the numbers. Got a feeling it will “coincidentally” change some minds…

I guess we will have to see the sales numbers before we can assume anything. For FF7 Part 1 I guess it has sold what, like 5 million copies at the minimum (as far as we know from official numbers) on a platform that has sold over 100 million, Sony giving away millions of copies on PS+ afterwards. So if they have less than a third of PS5 available by the time part 2 come out and it only sells 1-2 million, then I really hope for them Sony paid a huge sum to make up for it.

I think as the defacto JRPG it won’t lose popularity as the name itself will carry it for a while, as long as they keep making them good at least people will flock to it when it releases on their system of choice.

I just don’t understand what’s hard about saying: “We are still under a timed exclusivity deal until Part 3 is released” or something like that.

Keeping people guessing is probably the intended purpose.
