An analysis of FF7R and Xbox [warning, long OP!]

Would it REALLY kill a games journalist to at least ASK SE when or if we might see an Xbox version? As far as I know it has not even been asked.

Because journalists just naturally assume that the game belongs to Playstation :man_shrugging: Like any other moneyhat. They never ask when the game is coming to Xbox. But in reverse - they constantly ask if the game is coming to Playstation or not and even studios have to come out and say they will continue to work with Playstation etc.

I wanna know if Valkyrie Elysium is moneyhatted. Hmm…

I have heard this before, especially about the stretched out parts. Also that in terms of freedom it’s quite limited with invisible walls and just objects and areas you can’t hop over or get around. Perhaps I let the hype get to me, expecting something amazing but it certainly isn’t universally praised. I guess that makes the ā€œpainā€ of still no Xbox version, probably never, less bad.

Pretty sure that this a full exclusive as I don’t remember seeing anything regarding timed exclusivity on the latest trailer. On the bright side, there is a physical version of the game where as I thought it was digital only.

It comes with the first valkyrie profile

Really hoped that would come to Switch at leasy. Damn.

If there is no tag for timed exclusivity, isn’t it better to assume there is no deal and its only Playstation Exclusive because of Square being Square?

The game looks like a PS3 game and should easily run on the Switch. So Sony clearly paid for exclusivity of some sorts.

Valkyrie Profile Lenneth not coming to Switch is a fucking travesty though. These scumbags didn’t even put that game digitally on PSP either. And an awful mobile port with horrible touch controls.

Sorry if this has already been posted, I haven’t super kept track of this thread but Forspoken’s exclusivity deal is reportedly for 2 years, not 1. It was in the small print on one of the adverts. Maybe we have our answer, if they have 2 years of console exclusivity on Forspoken then it’s very possible the same is true for Final Fantasy 7 and we’re waiting out the clock till Intergrade is 2 years old (next June).

Nah nah nah, just one more year. You’ll see. It’ll happen, I know it will.

I’ve already played it on PS5 so I’m not super invested personally, though I do think it’d be great for Xbox to finally get it. I just saw that news and thought it was of note.

lol Forspoken is never coming to Xbox. Making the 2 year exclusivity public is dumb as hell. SE need to grow a pair and just be honest or stop saying this or that is timed exclusive.

The only game that may come to Xbox is FF16 due to it being a new game and it might be the worst selling mainline FF in a while. But that’s a stretch.

Yes, it has already been known for a while now that Sony moneyhatted Forspoken for two years and not one. It’s theorized that it was cheaper for Sony due to being a new IP. However, FF7R was originally supposed to be only a year exclusive, as evidenced by SE’s own admition on my OP (granted, that was before the game originally got delayed).

It was way after the games release that insiders and journalists alike both mentioned that they’ve been hearing thag Sony wants to keep mainline FF off of Xbox for the entire gen. To the surprise of no one, that is exactly what we’re seeing.

As much as it sucks that it’s clearly not coming, it isn’t the end of the world. It’s not like we’re not getting tons of other great games. It’s not like this is the messiah of gaming or anything, lol. That’s not to say I wouldn’t love to have it, but it’s also not worth putting any real energy into anymore. They can just buzz off really, absolutely.

It might be the worst selling? it will definitely be the worst selling in a while considering that SE is limiting the audience for the game immensely with it being only on PS5 plus we know that the Japanese market is not the PS5’s strongest point. Now that Playstation has a game pass ā€œequivalentā€ (which keeps people busy with games plus the inevitable ā€œI’ll wait for it to come to the PS Plusā€ notion) it will be even more interesting to see the launch/first two months sales for this one.

If FF sales are not great they will do the bundle trick just like Sony always does.

they can do as many bundles as they want…SE aren’t gonna make the sales or money they want

But they won’t go public because they only throw their western devs under the bus. Their Japanese devs can do no wrong even if games underperform critically and commercially (FFXV)

FFXV might have a more mixed reception with fans, but I’m not sure it underperformed critically or commercially. It sold like 5 million copies at launch and went on to be the third best selling Final Fantasy in the series, and reviewed solidly too.
