Amazon Announces Cloud Gaming Streaming Service Luna

Yes, it would, but it be a much more serious threat to Sony now: two big gaming conglomerates out of their platform (I am including Zenimax here), no actual service comparable to Game Pass/xCloud/Luna.

You know…Nintendo is a publicly traded company and are valued at around 70 billion…

Think Google or Amazon may be feeling froggy lol?

This could have potential if they include bit with a prime membership, maybe like a prime+.

Luna has zero exclusives, nor does have anywhere close to the library GP does I think.

Still, MS are being smart by getting ahead of the competition, it helps that the lead at Xbox is a tried and tested gamer who knows the waters in both easy and difficult times.

Do we have any idea of the price? I hope $15 a month. Not more Would pay that for 1 months probably if it’s easy to subscribe to

Folks! You and me represent a large set of traditional gamers. Clouding gaming isn’t developed keeping us in the focus. Local gaming will always be the first choice for us.

Cloud gaming is for coming generation or maybe your kids who are already experienceing gaming with you. Amazon and Google are only targeting next generation of gamers. Microsoft is keeping a balance between the two and using its third place market share as an advert for the cloud gaming. Sony on the other hand is collaborating with Microsoft to stay relevant in cloud gaming future.

Also, cloud gaming is not relevant without a subscription payment method. That is the sole reason of Stadia to fail so miserably. Subscription service is key because it works on the ballon effect. Once successful - it keeps on ballooning and ballooning. The service itself sell the content. It is also lite on consumers, hence it catch on quick.

Subscription will be everywhere, it’s just a matter of time.

Maybe sooner than we think I hope.

Today is a special day… We are THRILLED to welcome the talented teams and beloved game franchises of @Take-Two to Team Xbox!

Lol

Amazon’s new Luna cloud gaming platform is powered by Windows servers and Nvidia GPUs. Luna supports more than 100 games thanks to this Windows support, allowing developers to quickly move their existing Windows games over to an AWS instance and provide cloud streaming access to subscribers. This backend Windows support also allows publishers like Ubisoft to host their own digital services (Uplay) on Amazon’s Luna platform.

Amazon has confirmed to The Verge that Luna will run on a standard version of Amazon’s EC2 G4 server instance running Windows, complete with Nvidia’s T4 GPUs and Intel’s Cascade Lake CPUs. Nvidia’s T4 is based on the company’s Turing architecture that also powers the previous generation RTX 2080 and RTX 2080 Ti graphics cards. A single T4 GPU (Amazon might be using multiple) provides 8.1 teraflops of performance and support for Microsoft’s DirectX raytracing technology.

Nice. A lot easier for devs working on Xbox and PC to port their games over.

We do not know the price and as @ParkerPetrov said it could add up really fast if there are enough publishers who make their own channel. Additionally, it doesn’t look like there is a way to buy any games. That isn’t any indictment on the service just something to note.

I suppose anything is possible, but Take Two is a publically traded company, would likely go for north of $21B-$22B before any competing bids, and it’s thriving.

If anything, Take Two will be one of the publishers in acquiring mode looking to expand operations if the right opportunity came along.

Luna is only at this price for the early access period, we already know the price will rise, we just don’t know how much it will cost on the end yet, but it definitely won’t be 5$ a month.

I see Amazon making deals for short term rather than big acquisitions. They fiscal strategy yields them no taxes but on the other hand no much in cash at hand to acquire a multi billion business just like that.

According to this they only ever made 3 acquisitions above 1bi, and only 1 significantly above that (Whole sale at 13bi), all others are in the low hundred millions range.

But it can change they can gear up to be more agressive right?

I am wondering when the Zenimax/Bethesda deals with Stadia will end - obviously, Microsoft will remove any games there as soon as the deal expires.

They have a huge cash flow I think that’s the more important factor. Dunno how quickly they can spun that into a big acquisition though, but certainly not as fast as having the cash waiting in hand

How much?

From a strategic standpoint it would be a smart pickup for anyone. As they have a pretty good blend of studios who do pc, and console games. They have rockstar as that prestige studio, the civ games, nba games, borderlands, etc.

If Microsoft would acquire take-two they wouldn’t really need to acquire anyone else and if someone else like amazon or google acquired them it would be problematic for xbox.

20ish billion is alot but its not alot. Microsoft paid more for linkedin, was talking about spending way more to acquire salesforce and tik tok. You are talking about a bit more then what average in profits for a quarter. It wouldn’t be even that major of a deal. they could easily do it in straight cash but I would suspect a deal of that nature would include some stock swaps as well. It would be one of the smarter investments as you would pay way more for EA or Activision but i don’t think it would be as worth it for what your getting back in studios and ip.

Just from strictly a entertainment standpoint. It would be great to read the comments.

How much is hard to say given they always reinvest any money they make.

But they deal with insanely high revenue rates (last year IIRC it was close to 300bi) but it’s hard to say how much of that is actually free to be used, though when dealing with that magnitude I guess they can quickly turn money around if needed too

Apparently Luna runs off of Windows PC’s running with Nvidia GPU’s. So even Amazon is pretty reliant on their competitors. >.>

I doubt there’ll be many Luna exclusives, I think it’s just about providing a catalog of third party games for cheap.
