After Starfield are you more or less excited for Elder Scrolls 6?

With Starfield development they had the whole engine thing going on, for sure that means longer development time. So hopefully that means we end this generation with TES VI. Phil talked about next gen starting 2028 or so, so yeah, like you said, a few months before next gen starts would be great. Sure as hell hope it isn’t 2029.

Fuck, what a long wait either way. Sheesh. 17 years in total, lord almighty. And yeah, definitely agreed, with the many studios they got now they can and should have a very good launch lineup.

Id rather it be next gen only tbh, as much as I love my Series S and think they did a good job optimising Starfield for it, id prefer ES6 not having those constraints

As for the playerbase, obviously having al those consoles out there to sell to would be ideal but ES6 would be an evergreen title, it would continue to get played and bought for the next decade, anyone buying a Series X2 or whatever would likely be playing ES6 at some point in the gen

The majority of Skyrims sales have come from PC/PS4/XB1 and not it’s original ps3/360 release, similar to GTAV, games with with tails as long as these games don’t need that massive Day 1 install base for long term success

It’s possible. But I also think it’s smart to put out the biggest game of the generation at the end and get the most sales (and then have those sales continue into next gen, like Skyrim and GTA).

I also don’t know if they will “need” next gen given that CE 2 was created for both Starfield and TES. I feel like they would be making it next gen only artificially, with the vast majority of development being done on Series S and X anyway.

The main reason why I see it as Fall 2029 (if not later) is because I just don’t see the game being finished by mid-2028 and I do believe that if the game needs say, an extra year or more, Microsoft will give it to BGS.

I disagree with needing the largest install base because it’s already there on PC which is where TES 6 will be it’s most successful plus since the game will most likely have expansions and years of support, people can always jump in later on console.

Fall 2029 or later, bro this is a nightmare scenario. :pensive:

You betta be wrong.

The same I guess. It’s great to see a polished, content-rich game from BGS after Fallout 76. And there will definitely be similarities between Starfield and ES6 but in other ways they’re fundamentally different games. Any perceived issues with repetitive planet exploration or reused points of interest don’t seem relevant to Elder Scrolls. I do hope that ES6 retains the increased focus on Mass Effect-style companion relationships.

Why is it a nightmare scenario? Has the game even entered full production yet? I don’t think it has and I don’t want them rushing it out. Besides, this generation console wise has already been decided and I would much rather see Microsoft already start preparing a few games for next generation. No reason to push out stuff when you’ll have so much already this generation and can have a stronger start next generation.

More.

I was very excited before Starfield and even more so after. Excellent quests, with some questlines better than some games mainquests, was very nice. I also enjoyed the rather bug-free experience in the new engine. TES VI will be epic.

Starfield has been awesome, waiting on the HDR patch before continuing but I got 2 full days in the game and barely scratched the surface.

I’m now even more excited now for ES6 as it seems Bethesda has stopped dumbing down their games even more release after release, Starfield let the player figures things out which is great. Starfield also had great writing, great characters and great questlines and backed off the hand holding to let you experience the world as you wanted to.

Skyrim was horrible and that regard and Fallout 4 was not much better. So I’m super happy Bethesda has gone back to great writing and great quests and stopped the ever increasing hand holding for all their games.

Because I’m really hoping it’s 2028 max, the wait has been so long already and it will be much longer. I believe Phil said 2028 for next gen, but I’m not sure if he said much about TES VI. Has Todd, on what the plan is?

Nightmare scenario because I really want a new TES VI way sooner, but alas. And well, I won’t be getting any younger. And the further out TES VI is, the even further out Fallout 5 is. :frowning:

At least Avowed, CR and Fable are coming while we wait.

I would sacrifice a human life to get Elder Scrolls 6 here sooner.

They haven’t said much about the game. Just that it’s after Starfield. I’m not getting any younger either but 1 or 2 more years isn’t going to make a difference in regards to waiting. And if it means the game is even better, I prefer to wait. I also want to see next generation Xbox in November 2028 have a great launch lineup but also show us what’s coming in 2029 and having TES VI would be massive for the first year anniversary of the next generation console.

Hail Boethiah!

Let’s say they start full production next year, that would make it 5 years in development if it were to drop in 2029, my guess is it won’t take them that long. Skyrim received two big expansions and Fallout 4 too. I don’t know if full production on their next game only started after those expansions or if it was already underway. We know they are making at least one expansion for Starfield, I just wonder if a part of the team will already be working on TES VI.

I’ve been the first one to criticize Starfield for some of it’s design choices but it’s not fair to be less hyped about ES6 because of Starfield not being a masterpiece like the last TES were.

When most of us think of TES, or Bethesda, we think about how they had no competition on the exploration on their games, getting lost and seeing new places, secrets, quests, NPC’s interactions etc.

On their last game, it’s not like that part got worse, it’s just that they chose to not put exploration on it, or not a real or serious one, i’m sure they are still kings at doing that, even Fallout 4 had a really cool exploration tbf.

The only thing that worries me, or has me less hyped or whatever is the music, Starfield had some good music, not as good as some other 2023 releases tho, think it didn’t even get nominee for it’s OST.

Skyrim and Oblivion had the best music of their generation, actually of this century if you ask me, only rivaled by Nobuo’s work on FF7-8.

Thinking about it more, this is actually an area where I am a bit concerned

Starfield has great music and Zur does excellent work but nothing he’s done comes close to Soule’s work in Oblivion or Skyrim although he hasn’t had the chance to score a full ES game like Soule did so maybe it’s not a fair comparison but as great as the ES games are, it can’t be said enough how important the soundtracks are to those games, without those goat tier soundtracks they would not be looked at the way they are today

If he is going to be doing the soundtrack for ES6, he will have a really tough job matching up to those, hopefully he can pull it off

You can listen to TES Blades OST if you want to get a glimpse of Inun Zur on Elder Scrolls. IMO it’s good, but you don’t have the feeling that’s a TES soundtrack.

My pick would be Brad Derrick who made most of ESO soundtracks which are fantastic.

Like people said, Starfield was more of a passion project experiment that they want to try so it doesn’t really mean that Elder Scrolls 6 will be the same. They just need it to be like Skyrim, a more focused scoped open world with great exploration, and a living breathing world. A lot of the negative discourse with Starfield is really related with exploration(which is understandable due to its size), and that won’t be a problem with just one big map.

Some things they just need to improve is the presentation of NPC’s like facial animations and janky movements, a more robust magic systems, improve dialogue and RPG systems. The story and writing(main quest and factions) is actually good for a Bethesda game, the best since oblivion for me. People saying the story sucks are just fanboys spouting bullsh*t. I hope the writing gets even more refined, especially companions and I would be happy.

In short, no, TES is their bread and butter and I am confident that it will be good regardless of media or fanboy receptions.

Starfield was a new IP and an experiment and I’m exited to see what they learned from Starfield in all their future projects and specially with Starfield 2…too bad that will come in 20 years and who knows if humanity will still be on the planet
