They’re still top 10 played on most of the main markets for Xbox on the console and they’ll get huge boosts on PC and everywhere once those modes are available. It’s fine, I wish it was ready for launch to but it is what it is and if they’re truly committed to a healthy work environment then I’ll be patient.
Let’s be nice and not make things personal.
Agreed
Hindle and Doncabesa, take this fight to DM’s please
Oh and also, sorry Kage
Do you really think having coop at launch would have prevented the complaints we see today? If you do, then I have a bridge to sell you.
As for forge, it simply wasn’t ready. And that’s okay.
People spend hundreds of hours playing co op in previous Halo games. So yea I think the complaints wouldnt be as much.
They needed more time with Staten as the head. Thankfully hes here now.
People would have beaten it in co-op and then went on wanting more content.
They just have to weather this storm, I was of the opinion of they should of delayed but the more I think about it, the more I think “ripping off the bandaid” was the right approach. Is it a bummer that the game wasn’t the ziegest moment we all thought Halo would be ? Sure but delaying the game another year to add co op and forge would of probably not quell people’s dissatisfactions with the shallow content.
A comparison with Battlefield V’s Live-Service (which was a poor Live-Service and ultimately ended up cancelled after 1.5 year):
- November 8: early access release (launched with 8 large Conquest maps)
- December 5: Conquest map (Panzerstorm)
- March 25: Battle Royale (Firestorm)
- May 21: Conquest map (Mercury)
- June 27: Conquest map (Al Sundan)
- July 30: Conquest map (Marita)
- September 3: Conquest map (Provence) + Deathmatch map (Lofoten Islands)
- October 3: Conquest map (Operation Underground)
- October 31 (soft relaunch of the game): 2 Conquest maps (Iwo Jima / Pacific Storm) + 2 new factions (Japan / USA)
- December 12: Conquest map (Wake Island)
Total in around 1 year:
- 9 large Conquest maps + 1 small Deathmatch map
- Battle Royale (1 very large map)
We shall see where will be Halo by next December. Hopefully they have kept some things secret (Certain Affinity ?) and are waiting the summer show to reveal it.
If they keep up the cadence of 2 maps a season then they are going to be pretty close to that.
Think it’s a waste of time looking at the first 6 or first 12 months, the reality is they need to establish a rhythm of support. Once that rhythm is established it won’t really matter what happened before that.
Exactly. All coop would have done is made the initial response even better, which, considering the review scores, wasn’t needed.
Now it releases later, yes, but better and it breathes some new life into the game. I know I’m going to be playing through it again with some friends.
It’s still #8 in the USA but in France and UK for example it fell to #17 Most Played game.
Numbers on Steam seem to indicate that there is no retention and that most of casuals stopped playing since several weeks despite a strong launch.
The fact that Halo Infinite (which is Free-to-Play) has its last peak just 4k above a paid and old game like Fallout 76 (which didn’t launch on Steam, only arrived in 2020 on the platform) is for sure not good (I took FO76 as an example). Let’s be honest, the game crashed in terms of retention (at least on Steam, it’s for sure in a better spot on Xbox but it still indicates things).
Users reviews also fell from ~80% to 76 or 77%.
The next 2 months won’t see any new content and I doubt that 1 new Arena map and 1 new BTB map in May is gonna bring many players to reinstall the game. The game needs a relaunch with a big splash.
I think we will have to wait for Forge, Firefight and hopefully some big casual PvPvE mode (be it Warzone 2.0 or a Battle Royale). I’m in the camp that scrapping Warzone to focus on a smaller-scale and more old-school BTB was a mistake (even if I enjoy BTB). Warzone wasn’t perfect but there was a lot of potential and PvPvE just fits Halo considering how fun it’s to fight the Banished.
Battlefield 2042 is in a worse situation though (and is doomed at this point, the game is fundamentally crappy unlike Halo)
Hopefully they have surprises for the summer show (like DICE had with The Pacific expansion for BFV back in the time).
i mean, Halo Infinite is the 4th most played game on Xbox(console, PC, etc.) according to TA.
Idk if the TA is accurate in these numbers. but it’s interesting.
Been a while since I checked on it here in Sweden, it’s dropped to 15th place apperantly.
Other pew-pew games ahead of it are: Fortnite (1), CoD Warzone (2), Apex (5), Destiny 2 (11).
It fares better than the competition from last fall though; CoD Vanguard (21) and BF 2042 which doesnt even chart so somewhere below 50…yikes!
Forza Horizon 5 at 8th is doing great though.
Correct me if I’m wrong but I believe Halo has just never been that popular in areas outside NA/UK/Mexico.
I mean, it has followed Xbox popularity pretty well. Huge in the Bungie and 360-era, jumped off a cliff with the Xbox One…
Infinite did very well at launch though, both on console and PC.
Ya things will be ok. Season 2 might not be huge but season 3 with forge will be massive.
Like you said it is what it is. Do I wish season 2 had a little bit more or was coming sooner… yes. But we gotta live with what we got. At least it’s fundamentally an amazing game to build from.
The way I look at Halo is that I will come and go as the content increases.
I have 150 hours in the game and have slowed down a little.
I find nothing wrong with that.
Same here. I’ve played a ton. Not so much lately durring this lull period, but will come back to it hard whenever new seasons start, and/or more content drops. And I’m sure the lulls between seasons won’t be nearly as long as thirs first one
Each infusion of content will keep things feeling fresh and new. And eventually there will be so much to the overall package, some will be playing constantly, regardless of how near, or far they are to new stuff
Have a lot of hope for this game to be the best Halo experience by far even if it will take some time to get there, I think they got most things right but it suffers from a bad lack of content right now, feels like they should’ve been better prepared for this though, the biggest with Halo 5 was launching with little content and no split screen and then the same thing happens with Halo Infinite 6 years later
Hope we see some sort of Campaign DLC teaser in the summer, I think it would be a good idea to hire a 3rd party studio or assemble a team at 343i to work on old classic maps like Blood Gulch as an example (please bring it back 343i!!) that map would be perfect in Infinite with some tweaks, I also think there’s a lot of potential in this game for a big Firefight mode, maybe something similar to COD Zombie where you get to move to different locations in the map instead of just fighting bigger waves of enemies in the same map but of course they will have to drop support for the old consoles eventually, I imagine that Xbox one won’t get support starting later next year.
Just cancel everything and give the series a full reboot.
