BTW, I hope nobody thinks I am Gaming the system with all those easy completions I had this year. I feel like I have been very transparent about why I bought and played them this year. But I also have completed a lot of Game Pass games that don’t give points, and played Inscyption for 45 hrs before submitting the point for it. I have played Persona 3 reloaded for almost 80 hours and hope to complete it before the DLC in September.
Looking through the games I played this year, I only found one owned game I gave up on, Castle of No Escape 2. It’s nothing like the original, has no tutorials of any kind, and is extremely RNG dependant. I played for about an hour and gave up. I didn’t submit it for a point, because I didn’t play very long and didn’t defeat the final boss to complete the story. Is that correct? Or should I have submitted for a point?
Good gravy, what is with all the goalpost shifts and exceptions for what “counts” and what doesn’t. I think @Mort’s original intent was to make this about completing games. I’ve quit more games than I’ve ever finished but they’re still in the backlog because they’re not finished… which is the entire point of the contest.
There are plenty of metrics to hit to consider a non-story game, completed: for example, completing the Roundtable in a fighting game (where you beat Arcade/story mode with all characters). I don’t think “this is good enough for me” is good enough. Why is it that it’s the people “in the lead” always coming up with new means of classifying a game as beaten? Seems a bit sus ![]()
@Knottian The original post and various discussions leave things somewhat open to interpretation and encourage discussion.
I don’t want to shift any goal posts. So again, I’m more than happy to go by whatever is decided. I really don’t want to upset anyone.
(Disagree with your point about a game remaining in your backlog until it’s completed, btw. If I quit a game for whatever reason and throw the disc out, it’s out of my backlog. I treat digital the same. I uninstall and hide it. But that’s one of those things that everyone will see differently, I’m sure.)
Since it should be a fairly rare occurrence (I have two such games the past 10 years or so), let’s just not award points for games we don’t finish and throw out of the backlog.
Not that anyone has abused it, but the possibility is there and we should just remove that factor to avoid any trouble in the future.
Sounds good?
I agree that there’s a possibility of abuse, so probably best to remove the possibility. Of course, the committee can always make exceptions for things out of the player’s control, like server closures, if the need arises.
To get things back on track, I have another completion! Mafia: Definitive Edition +1.¨
I really enjoyed this one. Great, classic, mob story in the 30’s with all the right ingredients. Cool characters, exciting story, lots of violence and some surprisingly good driving. I did not know this game was so focused on the driving, cars and such. Pretty damn good driving physics too! Enjoyed that a lot. It’s a very linear game outside of the free roam stuff, but it fits perfectly for the narrative.
Achievements were all sorts of broken though so didn’t bother with going for a completion on that front. There’s lots of collectibles etc.
When this comes to Game Pass, play it!
+1 Debtor
Another short puzzle platformer with the added mechanic of collecting coins before the exit opens. It’s also the last of the super short completions I had already started. So expect less completions going forward as I work my way through longer games that I have already started.
No worries.
Charlie Murder, Hell Yeah, Darksiders 2 and Rocket Knight are the games I didn’t finish this year. (Super Meat Boy was actually last October.)
Should put my total at +18.5
Glad you enjoyed it too. Having finished 1 & 2 as part of this years challenge I’m happy to have played them at last.
+1 Scott Pilgrim vs. the World (360)
Turns out that beat 'em ups really aren’t my thing. But I suppose I have to get through them. This one’s not too bad once you’ve leveled up a bit, though.
Hi everyone I know it’s pretty late in the year but would it be possible to join the competition? I’ve been burning through my backlog this year and didn’t realize there was a fun challenge like this.
Well, it’s Mon… no Tuesday so time for another update! I’m on vacation dammit
A few good completions this past week, good work everyone.
We also settled on not counting games we don’t finish, just a reminder.

It’s a bit late in the year yeah, but let’s hear from the other competitors what they think about it.
Anyone?
The more the merrier. ![]()
If they can provide accurate records like what I did, I don’t see a problem letting a new competitor in.
I’m doing it more for myself so kind of neutral on these things.
Honestly I’m probaly in the red point wise currently becuase of all the game slaes recently that I could’t pass up
. But I’ll go type up my list real quick!
@BrigadiersBlue, as long as you’re being honest and take negatives for purchases, I’m fine with it ![]()
More on-topic, I have another completion:
- +1 - Grabbed by the Ghoulies (Rare Replay) - I absolutely love Rare, and while I can appreciate some of the things this game did at the time, ultimately I can’t be upset that we never got a proper end to The Baron…
Total = 15
