XboxEra Podcast |OT| - Better than the other one you listen to

I don’t have time to look at all of those links because there’s a LOT of them. Is it possible that they’re largely reasonable takes with terrible headlines? My understanding is that that sort of thing happens pretty often. Not much prior knowledge of this fella, so please forgive the benefit of the doubt if he’s been a poophead in the past.

I’ll bite. A lot of these are very reasonable articles at the time when they were written.

The Hades one is dumb as hell I agree.

Paul tassi as of late has been a lot more balanced and charitable when it comes to Xbox and far more critical of Sony for all the bullshit they’re pulling.

Plus why can’t this podcast episode cover this exact shift in his thinking over the recent past and right now?

Xbox replies to Ryan mcaffrey tweets and congratulates him for stuff even after that guy literally said kill Grounded and put that team on Avowed and doubled down on it in his own podcast again.

These things aren’t as simple as “x was critical of Xbox or has made uncharitable remarks, hence we can’t even invite him on to talk about things”.

Being critical =/ clickbait headlines and/or bad faith arguments

Anyway we as fans are not Xbox which should keep relationship with all sorts of people, we are allowed to not like someone, expecially with a wall of bad receipts.

That is not something I have a say on, that’s on Xboxera team to make that decision, I’m sure they are aware of these things yet have their reasons to bring him on.

They had MVG on recently, twice too, yet I’m sure half of yall would riot over his views on Xbox DRM.

I’m personally not mad about these guest choices in any remote degree lol. You can be and certainly feel like voicing that. :+1:

I’m speaking about myself, XboxEra team can do what they want obviously. I have no problem also with MVG, the Xbox DRM does exist, it’s a completely different thing from the wall of shame above. XD

I remember reading all of those on my Google newsfeed over the past few years. I remember going through the articles with pretty inflammatory headlines and thinking to myself that, “he’s got a point” despite the fact that it was pretty negative on the Xbox.

And every time I would see a headline on my Google newsfeed that was similarly down on the Xbox I had to laugh because it was a Forbes article from Tassi. But again, what I’ve read them they were legitimate in what they argued.

Even the most recent one then with the PS5 showcase…there are no lies detected. He’s literally 100% right on every point made.

There is something to be said about straight and honest feedback and you get that from his articles. They may be bitter pills for Xbox fans but if the company wants to improve they should pay attention to people like Tassi.

Looking at all those headlines it really points out how rough the last generation was for Microsoft and how much of it was in fact their own doing. The Xbox was not too far off from being completely irrelevant as a brand. If all they could create was Halo, Gears, and Forza on hardware that brings nothing to the table then they were better off becoming a third-party publisher.

The growth in services (xCloud, Game Pass), the growth in hardware innovation (Series S is smart, and DX12U will usher the next generation of PC games), and the growth in first party output (by a factor of 3) has made Microsoft just as relevant as any other gaming company.

And as his latest article demonstrates, it will take time to recover from that past generation.

The other notable thing is that Tassi, as blunt as he was about the Xbox, sees the potential that Microsoft has created for themselves. He recognizes all the good moves that Microsoft has made. And as far as I remember he now plays the Xbox quite extensively due to all of these decisions.

I think he represents a large part of the market. So I see it as a great opportunity to speak to someone who was clearly skeptical about Xbox’s future (rightfully so) and is now bullish on the future of Xbox.

What a fantastic point. I don’t have anything to add to it, but just clicking on the heart wasn’t enough :trophy:

I don’t think those are hard pills to swallow for Xbox fans (that are online) cause we criticize Xbox all the time lol, for me its annoying to see games press play catch up with the xbox discourse. I wish Xbox would finally get over the “always waiting” phase we’ve been in since Phil started to right the ship, so we can move on. Nick is right with Be a prick and should have made Deathloop and Ghostwire exclusive or at least made em go multiplat. Other thing that’s annoying is the notion that Xbox has to be like Sony with the huge 3rd person blockbusters cause they aren’t going to be the same.

I agree with all that. Especially the last point. No one expects Nintendo to be like Sony. So I think similarly the Xbox should and will create its own expectations in a few years.

But I do think that Sony are master marketers and that Microsoft still has a lot of work to do in this area. Marketing doesn’t mean advertising (that’s a part of marketing). A lot of it has to do with product design and Sony knows what their audience and the mass market likes. I think Avowed, Starfield, TES6, and Fable are indications of into how MS can create their own games with mass market appeal.

Part of the reason I wanted Paul on is because he appears to be “turning” if you will.

He seems to like the Xbox ecosystem a lot more than he used to and like myself, he seems to call it like he sees it, even if he obviously sees some things differently to others.

He is here for Nick’s Playstation source😛

Keep it a recorded session. That way you can have a more civil discourse. This one need not be live. Not everyone has a context like the one @nrXic has provided.

@Shpeshal_Nick so what was the scoop you got scooped on that made you cancel rumor mill?

Infamous 2023 from Spawnwave?

The Velvet Veil leak from 4Chan/Reddit?

I’d be curious to know what you were told Nick, that could be part of the Playstation Showcase where you were like “if this is true…”

Did that thing, or things actually happen? I can’t help but assume no, based on the good, but not great show we got

Velvet veil? What’s that lol

And damn rumor mill canceled.

I know why. The rumor was a power struggle between Jeff Grubb and Paul Tassi for the hand of @Shpeshal_Nick in marriage, and Paul backed off recently, for some reason. Voluntary or coercion, doesn’t matter.

All that matters is Jeff is forever. Let’s remember that.

Think you need to put this in the Patreon Lounge @Proven!

I’m dumb, thanks

No, things were moved just like with the Xbox show. Leaks are tougher when they can just change up the videos until the day of. We need in-person events again!

Here, Here. 4K streaming needs to come back for goodness sake lol

Well, I had been told there’d be a new Marvel exclusive, which there was, Wolverine. Which is kind of a big deal.

I mentioned Infamous because I really like the series.

But I had a heard a bunch of stuff which didn’t end up being at the show. Twisted Metal, Crash Bandicoot, From being there with…something. All sorts of stuff.

But like I said, I couldn’t get ANY of it confirmed.

God of War was literally the only thing I could get 100% confirmed and was confident enough to even show my DM.

Which I’ll also be doing after we post the show. Showing my DM of what my Xbox rumour mill is. Got the ok from my source to post it.
