XboxEra Community Hangout |OT8| Waiting for E3 2023

Yeah I loved seeing Atomic Heart trailer during the Xbox booth stream. They clearly are in business with the developer despite them being in Russia, which is great. If this makes it before year’s end…let’s go!!!

Alone in the Dark Devs Dig Into Gaming’s Past | gamescom 2022

Is that for real? He posted a Chad Warden gif… who was literally a fake troll lol.

Geforce Now has a ton more to offer with playing stuff you own, free to play games, and a free tier. I’m also seeing them make deals with local Internet providers.

Does free tier provides the games or just the ability to play the games you already own?

With Microsoft goingn after F2P cloud and potentially play the games you already own + ecosystem they really understood where the future is going.

I think free tier is mainly games you own for an hour or so, if things didn’t change.

Nah, he’s kidding.

I think you are overly pessimistic tbh. You know I share much of the concern about Xbox efforts outside the anglosphere, but they have been making progess this generation. It’s slow af yes, but there is movement. Game Pass is the key and honestly the only thing lacking is big games. Games that can rival Sony’s first party in appeal, that is what will push people and media over the edge. Starfield can be the first one and we’ll see things move faster and faster after that.

But I don’t understand how they were able to jump from OG Xbox to Xbox 360 in europe where it was “the next hot thing” that everybody wanted to buy. And that was without Microsoft’s full budget (that for some reason is not enough for localizations lol)

Well, it was a year(?) or so earlier than the PS3 IIRC and when that came it was more expensive, that sure helped. Xbox was aggressive af back then too, both in marketing and in games.

Well, probably they lack that marketing aggressiveness. If people in Europe are still barely aware of Game Pass, then nobody but Microsoft is to blame.

I think people are aware of Game Pass, it’s just not interesting enough to pull people into the ecosystem en masse yet. That is where the big games come in.

Also, as people get more careful with their money, Game Pass will increase its pull factor enormously. Could be a perfect storm for Xbox. First party starts rolling out their big games on a cheap subscription service just at people have less money to spend…

Wow damn. This is just straight up, unvarnished, unambiguous console warring. This situation really has people rustled I guess!

Also BC and ecosystem weren’t as big of a deal back then. People were more willing to jump around between consoles. Now switching from PS4 to Xbox means leaving behind a big game library and your trophies.

I feel more and more confident in my description of the PS Community as a cult.

Yes, you need a damn good reason. Big, exciting games cheap af is a damn good reason. The Starfields, Hellblades, Elder Scrolls etc. for sure, but also… who tf is going to pay €80 to play CoD when it is freeish on Game Pass? This thing will gain momentum soon enough.
