Yeah, PCs are “neutral” and I end up having all the games to play (lest Nintendo’s) so it is a win in my book.

you ‘can’ get Nintendo, for now, they’re getting quite angry at all the piracy though :valle:

I’m all for choice, and as someone who used to be a PC-primary gamer for half a decade (felt like a century during those days), I still will never understand the glossing over that comes with PC gaming. I don’t have to fiddle with the infinite mess of drivers and config settings, ini file modification, etc. just to get a game running at a comfortable frame rate and perf metric (without spending 3000 bucks).

I’m happy that some like that more than consoles, and vice versa… just wish the acolytes would be a bit more realistic about the cost of PC gaming that extends beyond the tangible door cost.

As a primary Xbox gamer these days, I literally have no concerns over my content or the future of the ecosystem, which was what spurred the reaction from a few folks here.

I do actually like that with older games, getting 90s adventure games to work, getting 2000s PC ports working and fixed by modders, restoring original soundtracks, adding back lost maps/levels, etc. it’s a very cool feeling, and there’s also setting up emulators and all that, for retro gaming PC is heaven and tinkering makes sense and gives me that homebrew vibe. But for anything modern and especially AAA, I don’t want that bother and vastly prefer consoles.

I haven’t been PC Gaming for long (and also spent a good chunk of $) but it’s been pretty painless. I don’t know whether it’s because things have improved or if it’s because I’m playing primarily new games. All I do is occasionally update a GeForce Driver and download the games from Steam and/or Xbox.

I do have some minor inconveniences but nothing all that bad.

I have a PC with a GPU from 2019 and it’s anything but painless, and yes I’m aware of the age (wherein lies another problem with PC gaming compared to console gaming - longevity from optimization) - I’m also aware of consoles that I bought far older that have still received games, and more importantly didn’t require me to fiddle (which is the point). I love Ara, and it’s only on PC for example, and I have to constantly fiddle with AA, resolution, shader quality, etc. in order to get it to run at the frames I want.

And yeah, if you’ve spent a decent chunk of money on today’s hardware, you have plenty of power to brute force your way through plenty… but it’s such a cyclical argument that ends up back at my point, coupled with the cost that consoles simply don’t match. Again, all for choice (I play on my PC probably third-most amongst all my hardware), but this pretending like the cost is nothing or that the time/effort required if you can’t afford the best hardware, is disinformative…

New here,

So that debacle in regards to Avowed, i cannot help but feel like the dude who made the post did so do intentionaly ruin the overall persepctive of the game itself. The fact its not even out yet makes it so much worse.

Like i really hope it does out turned out well, but the dude was off the rocker for the stunt he pulled and is deserving of much needed criticism. Like it could put folks out of a job cause of this and its never okay.

Which post about Avowed? The recent previews have all been glowing…

I just assume something with the “anti woke” brainrot on the cursed platform

Interesting article on an issue in gaming at the moment (and why there’s so many flops, huge discounts quickly and so many job losses / closures) - pointing out more games than ever are being released but they’re all competing for the same 8% of gamer’s time that isn’t annual sports / CoD releases or online stuff like Fortnite:

Possibly - it does feel at the moment like someone took the Shaggy song “It Wasn’t Me” about gaslighting the guy’s girlfriend about his cheating and made it into our political and social media world lol.

We seem to be in a post-truth, post-competency required, post-decency, post-shame and post-manners / “treat others how you wish to be treated” society.

Instead bad, edge lord takes and toxic behaviour drives social media and political engagement and just encourages ever worse behaviour - honestly I don’t see how it’s going to get much better until a sentient AI takes over lol.

Really thinking the one in I, Robot had a point - we are like children, and I for one am looking forward to our robot overlords as they can’t do any worse than we’ve done lol

Everything is like professional wrestling now.

Oh am talking about the fellow behavior overall, his actions have consequences and it could very well be evident once the game releases. The blame will be solely on him for effectively trying to play a game that is foolish from the start and getting results that could lead to many folks getting their boot for his own behavior.

Yeah never going to argue PC isn’t an expensive way to play - while if you’ve got a current or past gen card gaming is pretty seamless, it’s expensive to stay up to date.

And it’s definitely not as pick up and play - I really miss Quick Resume when on my PC, as for example DA Veilguard resets your location to the last checkpoint in a save (even if saving what you’ve opened and killed) which is irritating.

For me it’s the massive benefit of being able to use single-player cheats and trainers like WeMod to compensate for games with shitty accessibility or ridiculous difficulty spikes - I’m never going to forgive Immortals of Aveum for after 30 hours in giving me an unskippable boss fight that even on the easiest setting dominating all other enemies I couldn’t survive 20 seconds let alone win it with my coordination and motor issues.

Also the game prices are one bonus - subs like Humble and EA Play Pro reduce the costs of gaming as does CDKeys (but that also does for Xbox).

But I’ll never give up my Xbox - I love QR, the quick boot and being able to easily play bitesize chunks, so for stress free or accessible games I’ll still be on my Xbox as it fits so much better with the hectic daily life of adults

Who? Which fellow?

Oh my god I really don’t want to do this, I just don’t, some people’s nerves aren’t ready for it. But I’ll say if Chris Avellone and Elon Musk are on one side it’s most definitely the wrong side, I’ll just leave it at that.

Based on what I can see, it looks like ragebaiting where a lot of things seem taken out of context by known bad faith actors. I’d suggest just focusing on the game. Twitter and YouTube make money off of showing negative and hateful content, I wouldn’t assume it in any way reflects actual opinions.

Looks like Avowed is the 33rd highest wishlisted game on Steam and we all know games that had big ragebaity hate campaigns lately that did just fine (see Dragon Age).
